Historia
Based on the extraordinary life of National Book Award-winning author Louise Erdrich’s grandfather who worked as a night watchman and carried the fight against Native dispossession from rural North Dakota all the way to Washington, DC, this powerful novel explores themes of love and death with lightness and gravity and unfolds with the elegant prose, sly humor, and depth of feeling of a master craftsman.

More than an award
Revisado: 01-30-23
Louise Erdrich is doing us a solid by delivering the truth of a race of people abandoned and ignored by America. She’s a magnificent storyteller, yes; but more than that, she is a generous translator and steward. I am thankful and humbled to read about her people and their sacred, beautiful ways. I hope she reaches people who didn’t know they needed to be enlightened in their own (*own is used loosely here, cause let’s be honest…) country, and that she inspires more natives to write their fact based fiction or anything they feel compelled to share. Tommy Orange’s debut was another example of profoundly moving “fiction”. I refer to his work as such, because I depend on natives like Mr. Orange and Ms. Erdrich to illuminate a culture largely unknown by other races of people inhabiting and breathing the same air. It may be fiction to the authors, but for students of American schools, especially The South— we are only taught what the states deem necessary to learn.
Perhaps one day, Congress might come to their senses and grant some kind of reparations to Natives across North America & Canada, respectively. We haven’t begun to scratch the surface in regard to repaying them for what we, as colonizing invaders ripped away from them. Thank you, Louise Erdrich, for your service. And congratulations on garnering the attention of the Pulitzer committee. You had me hooked after “The Round House”, and I eagerly await your next offerings.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Thank you for your service, Van Pelt. What a name, btw! I am odd, and maybe it’s why I found this book so endearing. Rich, developed, interesting characters & sea creatures alike. Well done. Thank you, truly.

Her Excellency, Roslyn Sinclair
Revisado: 07-30-21
I’ve listened/read at least 100 articles of lesfic, and I can say with some assured certainty that the female characters spilling from the author’s fingertips are not only memorable- they’re delightfully romantic and equally erotic… I eagerly await Roslyn’s next offering, whilst trying not to imagine myself at the mercy (or underneath) someone like Assistant…
Thank you for your service. The X Ingredient was also, fully delicious & shan’t be missed.

Jesus. I’m not religious.
This has to be the hottest—nay, the HOTTEST f/f ice queen/older woman/I didn’t know I was gay romance novel yet.
It took a few chapters for me to warm up to the Southern accent, but I really couldn’t hear accents for long, due to the pulse in my face/heart palpitations/stirring in various body parts, etc.
It’s high praise to the author and orator when it’s 3:30am and I have no intention of turning the book off or going to bed...

Half a million dollars will be Celeste Thorne’s reward for spending four years of her life in total isolation. No faces. No voices. No way to leave. Since Celeste has never really worried about being alone, the generous paycheck she’ll receive for her participation in the solitary psychological experiment seems like easy money. When she finds an injured hiker in the woods bordering her living compound, her strictly governed world is thrown into disarray.

Revisado: 10-18-19
This was a good time. There are some unfortunate lezzy audiobooks in audible’s arsenal, but this wasn’t one of them. Abby goes Italian! I plowed through this one in a day, and the gooey blob where my romantic heart used to be was fortified by E.J.’s inspired words.
