This narrator SUCKS!
Revisado: 12-21-23
The narrator was TERRIBLE with way too many pauses and stuttering that Totally took away from the listening enjoyment! I would never knowingly pick another book that had this man as the narrator!

Historia
This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath" - literature, epic traditions, private letters, and accounts - to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled.

Historia
The ancient world has cast a long shadow, influencing our customs and religious beliefs, our laws, and the form of our governments. It has taught us when and how we make war or pursue peace. It has shaped the buildings we live and work in and the art we hang on our walls. It has given us the calendar that organizes our year and has left its mark on the games we play.

Fascinating and Very Well Delivered
Revisado: 06-04-21
Never a boring moment and well worth the investment of the time it takes to listen. Well written, and the narration is way above average. As a matter of fact, I have now listened to the whole book twice so that I didn't miss any pertinent facts and/or opinions. Totally one of the best books I've "read" in Years! I simply cannot recommend it highly enough. Try it, you'll like it!

Simply one of the best books ever written.....
Revisado: 12-27-20
I've read The Hobbit over and over, and it never gets old. But, no matter how great the reading or performance, unless you're unable to read it yourself, it's never going to be better than the voice in ones own head. So, if you're able, read it to yourself. Because it will be so superior to having it read to you. BUT, I still LOVE THIS BOOK, and it just never gets old! The very definition of A Classic!

Great story, Glitchy narrator
Revisado: 10-19-19
Enjoyed the book BUT... it seemed like every third or fourth word the reader was stumbling over the words, making a mistake and going back to fix it. Overall, it made what could have been a great listen torture! At times I would have to stop listening because of ear/brain fatigue because of his stumbling over words. Only because of the content was it worth finishing the book. If the content hadn't been as good as it was, I'd have quit LONG BEFORE THE END. So, if you can tolerate the speaker, it's a worthwhile listen.

A Long Way to Go to Get to The End!
Revisado: 07-01-19
This is such a long story that I have been forced to set the timer on every chapter. Otherwise I fall asleep and miss what's going on. But still, it's a well told tale that's well worth listening to. It's very different from the movies, and one really must pay attention, or be lost and not realize what's going on. Honestly, I don't know how George was able to maintain his grasp of the story and the characters.

Historia
Bill Bryson and his family live in a Victorian parsonage in a part of England where nothing of any great significance has happened since the Romans decamped. Yet one day, he began to consider how very little he knew about the ordinary things of life as he found it in that comfortable home. To remedy this, he formed the idea of journeying about his house from room to room to “write a history of the world without leaving home.”
