This forbidden romance has both characters behaving erratically, and honestly almost criminally. Where consent os questionable. I love Tim Paige and Teddy Hamilton but prefer other performances over this one. The material here doesn’t measure up.

I love this story so much, but above that I love this narration so much. The two narrators do a phenomenal job imbuing the story with all the emotion. Just love.

Love this story! Basically will read anything Rachel writes so there you have it. Cooper North does a fantastic job narrating this one.

While I was hesitant to read this story at first, I think Hunter might be my favorite of the series. As a character Scott shows so much growth and finding his perfect match with Hunter was incredibly satisfying.

I'm more of a Tim Paige fan than a Tristan James one, but I DNF'd this when I was stuck listening to over 30 minutes about Jeremiah's social worker case, this was after the weird interlude about the mayor, and then when the ADA was like "your past blah blah blah" I was done. WHO CARES ABOUT ANY OF THIS? I gather the author was trying to create backstory, but like the backstory should serve the ROMANCE in a ROMANCE. We already had some wild instalove happening, but then the characters are only together briefly for a FaceTime call. They have a lot going on and it's like, no way do I believe this connection. Too bad because this had a promising premise. The plot completely failed to live up to it.

Dean and Norah are delightfully brought to life by narrators Teddy and Erin! The humor and emotion in the story really come through and it’s always fun to spend time with the Boulder-based Wait with Me crew.

Whether you’ve read previous installments or if you’re fans of the narrators, this story is just enjoyable from the opening seconds to the final moments.

Cute story, but there is zero conflict

This story was more a series of vignettes with the children and the forming of a family, with a little romance sprinkled in. But the main characters have basically no conflict and so you spend most of the book expecting something to happen only to realize that there is actually nothing keeping the characters apart. And it’s fine. The narration is well done, and the characters are charming, but there is basically no plot.

will watt's scottish accent is to die for. he embodies mac and it is perfection. mac and freya are perfection, best friends who fall in love long before they are willing to admit it. charlotte cole is a delight as freya though the cornish accent is less delightful, that's not really her fault.

i just love the dual narration here, because the characters always keep their voice and it feels more like you're listening to a play than anything.

mac and freya believe they have the best friendship in the whole world. the one that will prove that harry of "when harry met sally" was dead wrong when he said men and women can't be friends.

but as blindsided unfolds, it's pretty clear that they're just going to prove him right.

deeply hilarious, there were multiple moments of me laughing out loud, there are also some weighty scenes that nearly had me in tears. these characters are so hopelessly broken in so many ways, it's how fixed they are together that makes them absolutely perfect.

the harrises all make appearances, and we get some updates on their ability to reproduce. but it's like catching up with old friends, and they are as always delightful. but freya and mac sparkle.

the chemistry between these two, the feels. the depth of the friendship and the lines they cross means that it's going to be super, duper messy. it's as bad as when harry and sally break up, maybe even worse. because even as things happen you know how much these two characters love each other. it's not just that they are lovers, it's that they are friends that elevates this love story to something special.

The first 3 chapters of this book are so boring. I almost stopped listening. It gets better but there is so much office work grind description and uggghhhh so boring. And the conflict turns out to not be a real conflict so that’s a bit unsatisfying but whatever. It’s fine.

amy daws has the best audiobooks, especially the harris brothers series audiobooks. told in a multicast style, where the male narrators read the male voices and the female narrators read the female voices and it's just the best. and in payback the awesomeness is doubled.

i previously reviewed the story. but hearing it brought to life by these talented narrators is the best. you connect with the characters in a different way, and it's so easy to fall in love with roan dewalt all over again.

every time i have the opportunity to listen to an amy daws book, i take it. because it's just ear candy. i laugh out loud and get emotional, and the narrators just do a splendid job of harnessing the funny and leaning into the weighty moments in just the right way. even if you've already read payback the audio is totally worth the listen.

**payback released on audio on june 24, 2019. i received a digital listening copy courtesy of amy daws in exchange for my honest review.
