I loved everything about this book. I was amazed at how much detail the author remembered and included in the story; then I realized I shouldn't have been surprised because he made it to the rank of Rear Admiral. I have read a number of books on submarines and toured a few WW II vintage submarines that are now museums, yet I still learned things about diesel-electric submarines such as the constant decisions the captain and other officers had to do such as how (when surfaced) how much engine power to devote to propulsion vs recharging batteries.

The narrator was great -- good pace and very consistent. I did note a few places where it was obvious some overdubbing had been done because the audio was somewhat inconsistent, but not to the point of being a significant distraction. I'm glad I also listened to "Undersea Warrior" about Mush Morton who commanded the sub Wahoo because prior to commanding Tang, Richard O'Kane had been Tang's Executive Officer, serving under Morton.

A masterwork character study by Steinbeck, with the perspective shifting between characters throughouta. The reader was most excellent.

A Serious Look at the History and the Myth

I was born about 60 miles from The Alamo, but didn't hear the legends surrounding it in Texas because we moved to Maryland when I was a toddler. I do however remember snipets of the history from junior high history, along with some mild rebuttals from my parents, both of whom were southern-raised educators. And I feel a connection to the area because I still have relatives in the vicinity.

The authors do an excellent job of presenting the history leading up to, during, and following the infamous siege. At the same time, they present interesting rebuttals of some of the most commonly believed parts of the legend (but I won't cite any of the spoilers here). I also found the contemporary struggle with what should be done with the property and a collection of artifacts donated by a popular musician, some of which have a questionable pedigree.

This is a great read (or listen) for anyone interested in The Alamo or in Texsas history in general.

This bood not only introduced me to a caracaras, a bird species I previously knew nothing about, but also put them in perspective with falcons, hawks, eagles and other raptors. The author vividly described his travels, various bird species, and how bird and animal species survived and migrated over time. I very much liked all the deep perspectives.

I liked the author's delivery -- his enthusiasm and deep devotion to the topic was evident throughout. I also noticed the author is a musician and he composed the music that played in the background during some passages.

I've always been a Scalzi fan and also have enjoyed Wii Wheaton's reading of other works. This one does not disappoint. It's a great story, made much more enjoyable by Scalzi's injected humor and Wheaton's reading with gusto.

It's obvious from the outset that brothers Ron and Clint Howard put their hearts into this memoir which covers everything from their early years to very near the present day. The insights into their relationships with each other and their very supportive parents (who were also actors and writers) makes the story worth every minute spent reading it (or.listening to the brothers tag- team storytelling.

Tells About Much More Than The Tunnel

This book tells the gripping story of how an escape from East Germany took place, along with so much more. It includes a detailed and well-researched account of the events that led to a divided Germany and how and why the Berlin Wall was built. There are harrowing accounts of secret police, brutal border guards and citizens being spied on by friends, neighbors and even family members, as well as vivid descriptions of how dissidents and would-be defectors were treated in prisons.

The writing is dense yet there isn't an extraneous or wasted word anywhere -- just incredibly vivid descriptions.

The author is also an excellent reader.

This is a gem of an autobiography because it provides so much insight into not only her public life as an actress, comedian and studio executive, but also her personal life including her relationship with Desi Arnaz and her struggles with starting a family. The forward describes how her daughter Lucie Arnaz found the unpublished manuscript. The work is narrated by Lucie who at times sounds just like her mother.

This well-written book contains tons of information about bats, the benefits they provide to the environment and crops (pollination), and how different species live. The story also dispels lot of common myths. I also admire the author's ability to point out his own errors and how he learned from them.

the narrator was great in the beginning, but in the last few chapters he read more slowly and with less enthusiasm and energy.

I loved every minute of this true story of a dramatic rescue. The story is well researched and the backstories are nicely folded in. The narration was just great.
