Just as good as I remember
Revisado: 02-05-17
This is a book I read in high school and remembered being actually very influential in my view on life. I still recognize those most important passages to me.
That said, as an adult who follows this sort of thing there was not much for me in the science parts. I highly recommend for a younger audience or as a fun introduction to topics of probability, evolution, and some physics though.
Wonderfully narrated as well. Well made as an audiobook.

The content is more important than performance
Revisado: 10-26-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would. It contains valuable insight.
What did you like best about this story?
Couldn't tell you. It is just a solid scholarly work on "HR" or "People operations" if you will.
What three words best describe Laszlo Bock’s performance?
Competent, Solid, Proficient
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, there is a lot of information. You will want to take breaks to digest it all
Any additional comments?
I didn't give it 5 stars for performance because it will solidly average. But that is not the point of this book. The content it solid, valuable, and worth listening to. If only all such works were as well narrated. Not for absolutely everyone, but if you are even the slightest bit interested in how to make a workplace better, this is a great buy.

Historia
The revised and updated edition of Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's modern classic about the psychology of combat, hailed by the Washington Post as "an illuminating account of how soldiers learn to kill and how they live with the experiences of having killed". In World War II, only 15 to 20 percent of combat infantry were willing to fire their rifles. In Korea, about 50 percent. In Vietnam, the figure rose to more than 90 percent. The good news is that most soldiers are loath to kill.

Required reading for any adult
Revisado: 10-29-14
If you could sum up On Killing in three words, what would they be?
Unfun but necessary
What was one of the most memorable moments of On Killing?
Learning of man's (as in human's) reluctance to kill, and the statistics of killing in wars
Which scene was your favorite?
N/A
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes. This book was not fun to listen to. It was downright awful at times. It is also the most important book I've experienced in the past 10 years at very least. I think this is important for any adult to read. Period.
Any additional comments?
I didn't give it 5 stars for Performance because it is read by the author. Read by the author is a good thing, but I would be dishonest if I were to say he as good a job as professional voice actors/narrators. But he does an entirely adequate job beyond a doubt (above average in fact,) and the content is much more important than the performance.

He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Only one gripe
Revisado: 01-09-14
Would you listen to Dune again? Why?
Yes, there is a lot of interest and plenty to enjoy. Admittedly I would wait a few years to listen again, but it's nice to revisit books later in life.
What other book might you compare Dune to and why?
I guess Ender's Game, just from the standpoint of Science Fiction, in which the primary character is especially proficient. Couldn't say I prefer either one, they are rather different works outside of that.
What three words best describe the narrators’s performance?
Inconsistent character narrators
Any additional comments?
The one specific gripe is they did a weird thing with the narrators, where they did not have the same voice actor/narrator narrate the same character throughout the work. One voice can be three different characters, and one character might have three different voices through the recording. This in confusing until you realize that this is what is going on, otherwise it feels like Duke Leto comes back to life Piter the mentat for no reason.
