wonderful, wonderful
Revisado: 05-02-25
Judi Dench is deeply knowledgeable about Shakespeare. And there’s everything else here to love:
Her voice reciting Shakespeare from memory, the narrators voice speaking and laughing uncannily like Judi Dench. The spirited back and forth interview between actors/friends. The civility, intelligence, love of art, light touch of this book is desperately needed now. I listen over and over.

Historia
This memoir is laced with wonderful stories about the French character, particularly in the world of food, and the way of life that Julia Child embraced so wholeheartedly. Above all, she reveals the kind of spirit and determination, the sheer love of cooking, and the drive to share that with her fellow Americans that made her the extraordinary success she became.

Perfection!
Revisado: 02-19-25
This is such a special book. I’m a voracious reader and audiobook reader, and this now is one of my favorite books of all time. Julia Child is an inspiration in the way she looks at life and challenges. She made for herself, with the help of her husband Paul, one of America’s great stories. Kimberly Farr inhabits Julia Child and she brings this wonderful adventure to life.

Where are there more audiobooks of M. F. K. Fisher? I listen to many good books here. This is my favorite, these early writings of M. F. K. Fisher, in combination with a reader who could be her.

Historia
It’s springtime in Benedict, Alaska, and with the warmer weather comes an unseasonably somber local tradition...the annual Death Walk. At the end of each brutal winter, citizens gather downtown and then break into groups to search the community for those who might have somehow gotten stuck at home. Beth Rivers sets off with her friend Orin and dog Gus toward the cabin of an elderly resident, intending to check on him. When they reach the cabin, the old man is alive, but not in the best shape. Beth stays with him while Orin hurries to town for help, but it’s not Orin who returns.

Revisado: 05-01-23
This is what I like to listen to at night, a cozy mystery. And the landscape of a small town in Alaska is perfect. There is a cast of characters you’ll get to know and love. The writing, and the reader fit like hand and glove. Narrator Susie Althens has a smart and soothing voice. Love this series!

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Touching, clarifying, royal, human
Revisado: 02-20-23
This explains so much, about Prince Harry, Meg, the royal family w Queen Elizabeth ll hovering above the rest as she seems to the onloooker, funny, smart, loving, duty bound, true royalty. The tabloids are clearly the villain, divisive and as dangerous, not unlike far right media in the US. Prince Harry made me love them all, And hope for a reconciliation at some point sooner rather than later. The royal family needs Prince Harry, Meghan and their children. and this young family needs their British family too.

Historia
It is the early spring of 2016 and Queen Elizabeth is at Windsor Castle in advance of her 90th birthday celebrations. But the preparations are interrupted when a guest is found dead in one of the Castle bedrooms. The scene suggests the young Russian pianist strangled himself, but a badly tied knot leads MI5 to suspect foul play was involved. The Queen leaves the investigation to the professionals—until their suspicions point them in the wrong direction. Unhappy at the mishandling of the case and concerned for her staff's morale, the monarch decides to take matters into her own hands.

Revisado: 02-17-23
Loved this book. The reader’s voice is comforting, smart - someone you like to come home to at night. And, she does sound like Queen Elizabeth enough to take you back in time w the story. The story is constructed well, and it is light, a cozy mystery.

want to love a villain?
Revisado: 09-02-15
Josie Harper is a lesbian and has a new job as p.i. Just as she's filling her new office w furniture from Ikea, Sara walks in and hands Josie her first murder case. Who killed Kelly? Lauren Wade, a cool, beautiful blonde has already been tried and acquitted of that murder. Still, something is odd about this cool character. and from there Josie and her cast of characters take us through a tangled and satisfying mystery.
it is hard not to fall for Josie and harder to resist Lauren Wade. I loved it.
