Historia
The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.

One of Michael Sullivan’s best books
Revisado: 02-16-25
While the book is about artists and weaves, it’s the author, Michael Sullivan, who is the primary artist. He weaves his tales in a web of utterly engaging and entertaining storylines that bring together many elements from his previous books and characters. The performance by Tim Girard Reynolds, as always, is superb.
Having listened to over 700 books in my audible library, I highly recommend books by this author. Beware, however, because if you dig in once, you’re likely to be in for a very long ride as you work your way through the many books set in this interesting world Michael has created.
I love that Robin, Michael’s spouse, takes an active role in critiquing his work and pointing out logistical issues. As a fledgling fiction author myself, I am learning that writing is easy, but maintaining consistency among previous characters, settings and storylines is one of the hardest parts of writing. Great writing and great teamwork makes this, and other Michael Sullivan books, great stories.

Historia
In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history. In the midst of this crisis, the decision to launch a small wooden dory named “The Emerald Mile” at the head of the Grand Canyon, just fifteen miles downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam, seemed not just odd, but downright suicidal.

Well Written; Evokes Emotion
Revisado: 12-06-24
I listened to the audio version of this book a few years after I went on a motorized raft trip on the Colorado River. I both wished I had read it before I went and I am glad I didn’t. If I had read it, I would have had a deeper understanding of the landmarks we encountered on our trip. I’m glad I didn’t as it may have made me more fearful of certain rapids as we approached them. Instead. I was blissfully ignorant of how dangerous some of them were, completely trusting our skilled guides to get us through. The author does a great job of setting forth the history of the Grand Canyon since the Spaniards first saw it, through its more recent environmental challenges, and the competing interests that still continue to challenge it today. Yet he does so in a fully engaging manner. Once I started listening, I had a hard time putting this down. The author did an admirable job of narrating his own book. I have also listened to A Walk in the Park, written and narrated by Kevin Fedarko, and will definitely read any other books he writes.

Not my favorite Mike Bowditch Story
Revisado: 11-01-24
I didn’t care for the way the story kept going back and forth in time. It was rife rife with relentless pursuit and survival without enough much actual storyline. I’ll keep reading the series in hopes the storylines get back to normal.

Historia
A few years after quitting his job to follow an ill-advised dream of becoming a guide on the Colorado River, Kevin Fedarko was approached by his friend, the National Geographic photographer Pete McBride, with a vision as bold as it was harebrained. Together, they would embark on an end-to-end traverse of the Grand Canyon, a journey that, McBride promised, would be “a walk in the park.” Against his better judgment, Fedarko agreed to the scheme. The ensuing ordeal, which lasted more than a year, revealed a place that was richer, and far more complex, than anything the two men had imagined.

While written and inspiring
Revisado: 07-04-24
I listened to this book in preparation for my own hike on the John Muir Trail, which I believe will pale in comparison with respect to the difficulty faced by thru-hikers in the Grand Canyon. I picked up a few tips, the most important of which was lighten your load. And also, learning the difference between want and need. I will take these lessons to heart as I pack my gear and food for my own trip. Thanks Kevin, for sharing this journey.

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Not sure where Galapagos fit in
Revisado: 06-25-24
The book started out well enough but got over-burdened with too much detail toward the middle and end. I felt like the whole Galapagos incident was just thrown in to “off” a character who could just as easily have found her demise without leaving the island. The timelines seemed a bit preposterous. There were a lot of unnecessary meetings during a time when human existence was at stake. I like Scott Brick as a narrator and think he adds dimension to the story. Kept me company on a long drive across the country.
