This was so reflective, personal, and beautifully written. Fliakos’s performance was incredible and emotionally involved.

Amazing story somewhat tarnished by poor voice performance

I loved this story - compelling, with a healthy (or maybe heavy-handed?) dose of technical discussion on topics like economic incentives and glaciology in places. I loved the arc and the way the novel tracked from the human to the scientific and ultimately back to the human narrative associated with a near-term dystopia.

The one major flaw was the execution by the voice actors - not sure how thoroughly this was edited, but there were so many mispronounced words, inconsistent pronunciations within the same chapter of the same word (by the same narrator!) and it became somewhat distracting. I also wasn’t a fan of the accents - some came off as caricatures and others were just bad approximations.

All in all, a book that deserves a better recording.

Pamuk's use of prose and language is unparalleled on the modern stage. This sad and surprising tale is well-crafted by the author and well-performed by John Lee.

There are many books that are this depressing and morbid, but they typically have some message about the strength of the human spirit. This is not one of them. It is merely a wonderfully written story about the degradation of a group of children abandoned to a plague- ridden, deserted village. If you are of fragile emotional health or low constitution, I would advise against this novel.

Pasternak has an amazing ability to capture the necessarily complex Russian philosophical attitudes during and after the Russian revolution and turn them into a beautiful novel of hardship and perseverance.

this is a masterful performance of Zola's utterly depressing tale of the plight of French coal miners in the Second empire. Best audiobook I've ever read.
