Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

My favorite fantasy novel. I just read it for the 3rd time in the last decade. Every time I get something new from it.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

ONE OF HIS BEST

Grisham returns to what he does best—a legal thriller and a story of redemption. I enjoyed it immensely.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

A bit corny
Revisado: 04-10-21
Not so much “It’s a Wonderful Life” as a Hallmark Channel made for TV movie. It had its moments and occasional insights, but overall it was a little trite.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

Interesting but frustrating
Revisado: 08-29-20
The information the author uncovered is fascinating and definitely worth reading. However, the book is written from the perspective of the author as the information is collected. From the beginning the author lets you know that he doesn’t feel he has reached a definitive conclusion about what occurred, and emphasizes that he has spent 20 years investigating the material in the book. Throughout the book these two points are made over and over again. We here about him unable to finish the article for the magazine that first employed him to write this. The magazine goes out of business long before he actually commits anything to paper. He agonizes continually about what should be the focus of the book, extensions on deadlines, loans to keep him afloat while he continues. At first it’s a bore, then I started to think the guy really does have a procrastination problem. By the end of the book The whole thing made me want to scream, He is pathologically indecisive. He acts like he hasn’t got enough information to draw any conclusions, but actually, he is just pathologically Indecisive. Not only does all this angst about what to write and how difficult it is for him become annoying and deadly boring, but it interferes with the understanding of the incredible information he unmasks. We lose the relevance of the information because he himself is incapable of tying them together. He’s afraid that someone. somewhere will say it’s not enough so he hems and haws (sp?) endlessly. He’s evidently a good investigator, but the book winds up as an information dump. His constant questioning about whether the whole thing was worth 20 years if his time, leads the reader to question whether the whole thing was worth 8 hours of their time. There are interesting stories and significant conclusions to be made, but in the end the author doesn’t have the courage to commit to any.

Historia
Originally released in fall 2017, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump was a runaway best seller. Alarmed Americans and international onlookers wanted to know: What is wrong with him? That question still plagues us. The Trump administration has proven as chaotic and destructive as its opponents feared, and the man at the center of it all remains a cipher.

Disappointng
Revisado: 12-29-17
If you could sum up The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump in three words, what would they be?
The authors argue that the standard ethical restraint against diagnosing political figures with whom they have no clinical relationship, should not apply in the case of Donald Trump becausehe presents a unique danger and therefore, they have a countervailing obligation to the public to inform and warn, . That makes sense to me and I gave no doubt that Trump qualifies for some abnormal psych diagnoses, but many if the essays lapse into partisan diatribes that give lie to the premise. I think Trump's an ass, but in the end, many of these essays are just cheap shots, cloaked in the gravitas of expertise.

Historia
Since 1945, the US has justified numerous wars, interventions, and military build-ups based on the pretext of the Russian Red Menace, even after the Soviet Union collapsed at the end of 1991 and Russia stopped being Red. In fact, the two biggest post-war American conflicts, the Korean and Vietnam wars, were not, as has been frequently claimed, about stopping Soviet aggression or even influence. And now the specter of a Russian Menace has been raised again in the wake of Donald Trump's victory.

What did you love best about The Plot to Scapegoat Russia?
An excellent analysis of “Russiagate” from a sadly underrepresented perspective. Kovalik looks the history of U.S. Russian relations from the Cold War to the present and how they have led to our current self destructive policies. His knowledge of the subject matter is extensive, but the book is written in an engaging conversational style that is never dry or dull. Probably my favorite book of 2017. Highly recommended!

The First Piece of a Book
Revisado: 05-06-16
It's one thing to have sequels or trilogies with the same characters and some continuing threads, and it's another thing to sell one book in 3 or four pieces. This is a piece of a book. The beginning of a tale. It ends arbitrarily. As if a certain number of pages were agreed to in advance and the author hit that mark. There is no resolution whatsoever, and by the time the book two, or rather piece two comes along I will most likely have forgotten these characters as they aren't that memorable. I would recommend waiting until the author actually writes the whole book and then buying all the pieces together. Maybe it will be a good book when it's finished. So many books like this now. It's quite obviously driven by market rather than literary concerns.

Historia
One of the genre's favorite pairs returns in a classic fantasy short for both Riyria veterans and first-time readers. Several years have passed since the war-weary mercenary Hadrian and cynical ex-assassin Royce joined forces to start their thieves-for-hire organization better known as Riyria. Things have gone well enough for the team as they do "jobs" for various nobles throughout Elan. Usually that means stealing something, but when a young heiress asks them to steal her…well, that's a first for the pair.
