Really funny
Revisado: 02-07-25
This is a superb comedy about five flat mates and their intertwined lives that is really funny, while also being quite touching in places. The characters are acerbic in their wit but also demonstrate genuine bonds in their relationships together. I wish there were more comedies like this.

Great idea, hasn’t aged well
Revisado: 10-23-23
I liked the premise of the book and I’m sure it has value as being an early influencer for the post-disaster / survivor genre. But the post disaster world and the way everyone seems to consensus accept new social norms seems a stretch. The characters are unidimensional and there is far too much sexism in the portrayals. Perhaps it was very good in its day, but it isn’t now. There’s some enjoyment to be had from the book, but it is limited.

Historia
When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

Self indulgent derivative dribble
Revisado: 05-11-23
Question: What do you get when you combine the story of Star Wars and the lore of Tolkien, stitch in entire scenes from David Eddings, sprinkle on some Anne Mccaffrey, and then smudge it all around with some self indulgent writing and heroes who alternate between being whiny and gormless sometimes and then absurdly knowledgeable and wise at other times?
Answer: Eragon.
Seriously, the lack of originality is strong in this one. I’d give it a miss and find something that actually makes its own mark on the genre rather than this awful derivative dribble.
The narrator is okay, but he speaks way too fast (top tip, reduce your narration speed on the audible player to 0.9 to combat this a bit) and his character voices are a bit grating.

The book is okay, but it is much shorter and less well developed than the main trilogy books.

Not bad for a audible plus book
Revisado: 01-09-23
This was available as a free book in the audible plus collection. The narration is good and the story has potential, but the book is full of cliches and the author adding in new bits of character detail and world lore as he goes along that ought to have come up much sooner in the story for them to make any sense. The overall experience was enjoyable, but not remarkable.

Decent enough
Revisado: 12-31-22
A mostly enjoyable young adult fantasy novel. The “assassin” discipline of the protagonists seems tacked on for marketing purposes as the story would have made more sense given how the heroes behave if they had been practitioners in pretty much any other craft. And the two acts at the end that would almost certainly count as crimes against humanity under modern international law but are somehow passed off as benevolent are problematic. But other than that, it’s a mostly fun fantasy romp that is performed acceptably well.

The journey is over a century long but luckily, everyone is in stasis, so they’ll be safe and sound asleep during the trip. Everyone that is, except for Zero, whose pod has malfunctioned, waking him up a hundred years early. Decent premise ruined by meandering story and sex scenes
Revisado: 09-30-22
I liked the idea of the plot, but the author is very meandering in developing the story and the obsession with sex scenes and an understanding of human attraction that seems immature and puerile - I gave up and couldn’t finish the book.

Historia
In these four series, we return to the inner-city primary in the new millennium. A different head is in charge, but the challenges remain the same: from planning a big fundraising concert, to searching for a truant, to coping with wintry weather and a disappearing lollipop lady. In addition, the teachers contend with personal and professional upheavals as Mr Maxwell’s attempts to maintain playground order land him in trouble, Mr Long suffers a painful little problem, Miss Featherstone is arrested - and a surprise awaits the staff as they return from their summer holidays.

Mostly the same good old King Street Junior charm
Revisado: 07-04-22
It’s a well done show that engages at a simultaneously light but also serious level. It didn’t have quite the same charm as the original for me, but that’s probably more because I was a child of the 80s-90s (when the original was made) rather than anything to do with the show itself. With good actors, engaging stories, and strong production, this show is well worth the download.

A blast down memory lane
Revisado: 06-11-22
I went to primary school in the 1980s and this drama captures school life as it was then supremely well. Plus it features an excellent cast, great stories, and superb production. Really great stuff!
