The narrator was awful!! The narrator for the first 4 books was so much better. This one sounded like a street thug, not at all like an intelligent young woman working on her career. She read way too fast - which I read fast when I read to myself but she read as if she couldn’t wait to finish it. Her voice was so distracting I lost interest in the story.

Loved the story and the characters. The narrator did an excellent job. This book reminds me more of the author’s older works with its depth and story layers. I highly recommend it.

Not my favorite

I’m an NR fan but while the story line of this book was interesting, the some of the content was just unrealistic. And the narrators voice bothered me. The main female character sounded immature and silly unlike what you would expect from someone with a higher education.

Excellent story with multiple twists. Narrator did a great job but I just agree with some of the other reviewers, the background music was rather distracting. I still feel compelled to recommend the book; however.

The plot of this book was interesting but I just could not get into the characters. The female lead, who is in her late 20’s, seemed like an immature teenager at times and the narrators performance seemed to support my thoughts on this. It was somewhat frustrating to read about her poor choices also. I really wanted to like this one and even though it was somewhat interesting, I found it lacking overall.

New York book editor Maris Matherly-Reed knows a best seller when she sees one - even if it is just a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identified only as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgia coast. Maris is intrigued enough to search for him.

I don’t usually write a full review but felt compelled to do so. Excellent story, I read the book a few years ago & enjoyed it so I thought I would listen to it. The narrator did an absolutely awful job on the main male (Parker) characters voice. I’m from the south so I’m very familiar with a southern accent; however, the narrators choice of accent sounds more like an uneducated country hick than a well educated student of writing. One can speak with a drawl without the “duh, I’m slow witted”nuance. The accent was overly exaggerated and distracted me from the characters dialogue to the point that I almost stopped listening several times. In contrast, the other “voices” were well done. I implore this narrator to research the variations of a southern accent prior to EVER being recorded using one again.

Historia
Cody Hoyt, while a brilliant cop, is an alcoholic struggling with two months of sobriety when his mentor and AA sponsor Hank Winters is found burned to death in a remote mountain cabin. At first it looks like the suicide of a man who's fallen off the wagon, but Cody knows Hank better than that. Sober for fourteen years, Hank took pride in his hard-won sobriety and never hesitated to drop whatever he was doing to talk Cody off a ledge. When Cody takes a closer look at the scene of his friend's death, it becomes apparent that foul play is at hand.

The plot and the story line of this book was great. The lead male role of the book was lacking in character and as much as I wanted to “embrace him” I just did not. He had some redeeming qualities; however, I kept expecting him to improve his character traits, but his vices were the most described thing about him. The author did develop a young female character in a very engaging fashion. As unfair as it may seem, it is difficult not to compare this main character with Joe Pickett. I attribute this tendency to the similarities: both characters are lawmen and the setting (geography) was very similar.

Historia
Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

Chasing Fire - not up to par
Revisado: 06-15-21
I’m a fan of NR’s books and I read Chasing Fire years ago and liked it. However, I didn’t really enjoy this audio version. The lead female character came across more as an egomaniacal smart ass than a strong capable woman. I’m all for strong women ( I am one) but this one was over the top in my opinion.

I’m a fan of NR books but I was skeptical of this one based on some of the reviews. But I really enjoyed it. The characters were well developed and the plot was great. It was a bit of a “whodunnit” but in a suspenseful way. I would not hesitate to recommend this book.

Historia
One rainy night, the unthinkable happens: Dylan Moran’s car plunges off the road into a raging river, his beautiful wife drowning as he struggles to shore. In the aftermath, through his grief, Dylan experiences sudden, strange visions: wherever he goes, he’s haunted by glimpses of himself. Dylan initially chalks it up to trauma, but that changes when he runs into a psychiatrist who claims he’s her patient. She says he has been undergoing a unique hypnotherapy treatment built on the idea that with every choice, he creates an infinite number of parallel universes.

New Novel- Infinite - It’s a no for me !
Revisado: 03-16-21
I have enjoyed every book by Brian Freeman and I think I’ve read them all. However, this was my least favorite book. I don’t wish to give away any details of the story, but I found myself so frustrated with the direction of the novel that I had to force myself to finish it. I tried to tell myself “it must be the narrator because I love this author’s books”, but it was not just the narrator ( although his voice lacked inflection). It had a discouraging and seemingly endless plot. Sorry Mr. Freeman but I cannot give your book a good recommendation. The most I can offer is that there was indeed a plot. Kind Regards.
