A Business Classic
Revisado: 06-19-24
I enjoyed the format, each chapter begins with a new concept and thern you hear examples from representatives of each (very well known) company describe how they implemented the change. one downside to the book is it is very focused on the tech industry, I would have liked to hear more examples from manufacturing, construction, food service industry, etc

Historia
Joe Coulombe founded what would become Trader Joe’s in the late 1960s and helped shape it into the beloved, quirky food chain it is today. Realizing early on that he could not compete and win by playing the same game his bigger competitors were playing, he decided to build a store for educated people of somewhat modest means. In this way, Joe laid down a blueprint for other business owners to follow to build their own unique shopping experience that customers love, and a work environment that employees love being a part of.

Questions finally answered
Revisado: 02-27-24
If you've ever visited a TJ's, you've probably wondered why the chain doesn't carry a few items on your grocery list, and why it feels so different from other super markets. On this year you'll hear the why and the how straight from the founder. A few parts of the the book were dull and there is so much cross chapter referencing that occasionally you will hear passages that felt like copy-paste repeats from earlier chapters, but on the whole it was a very interesting read even as someone who doesn't work in the retail industry. If you work at a grocer, or in retail, I bet this would be and easy five stars

Great behind-the-scenes look at Patagonia
Revisado: 11-10-22
I enjoyed this book and highly recommend the other books by Chouinard. I didn't realize that this is used as one of the company hand-books for Patagonia employees, but that makes sense as the book clearly lays out the company's goals and guiding principles. if you like this audiobook I highly recommend checking out the very similar book about Dr Bronners

One of the greatest physicists of the twentieth century, Richard Feynman possessed an unquenchable thirst for adventure and an unparalleled ability to tell the stories of his life. "What Do You Care What Other People Think?" is Feynman's last literary legacy, prepared with his friend and fellow drummer, Ralph Leighton.

A great follow up to Earlier works
Revisado: 09-07-22
This book is very similar to it's predecessor, "Surely you're joking Mr Feynman", and fills in many of the gaps that were left out of that work. I think SYJMF must be read before this, otherwise nearly all of the context of these letters and situations are unknown. I particularly enjoyed the lengthy coverage of Mr. Feynman's participation in the Challenger investigation!

Historia
With his characteristic eyebrow-raising behavior, Richard P. Feynman once provoked the wife of a Princeton dean to remark, "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman!" But the many scientific and personal achievements of this Nobel Prize-winning physicist are no laughing matter. Here, woven with his scintillating views on modern science, Feynman relates the defining moments of his accomplished life.

Great stories, dated attitude
Revisado: 08-24-22
the first 2/3rds of this book are awesome, many hilariously (un)believable stories that pull you in unlike anything else I've read about physics. Many of these wacky scenarios play out as if Feynman's life was the main character of a well-written sitcom. Unfortunately, the last 2/3rds of the book display the dark side of Feynman, where his stories shift from youthful fun to... rude misogynistic womanizer jerk. He begins to take pleasure in being disrespectful and sometimes outright mean to people (both men and women), and nearly every story has elements of lust, nudity, adultery, etc. I suppose it it just a reflection of the attitudes of the time.
Overall, I would still highly recommend this book, but (spoiler) I wish the book had ended just before the story where he learns how to seduce women from the nightclub-promoting-couple. The books content deteriorates from them onwards.

Historia
Patagonia, named by Fortune in 2007 as the coolest company on the planet, has earned a reputation as much for its ground-breaking environmental and social practices as for the quality of its clothes. In this exceptionally frank account, Chouinard and Stanley recount how the company and its culture gained the confidence, by step and misstep, to make its work progressively more responsible, and to ultimately share its discoveries with companies as large as Wal-Mart or as small as the corner bakery.

Excellent behind the scenes of an Excellent Compan
Revisado: 06-17-22
I was surprised how interesting this book was, it refreshingly and tactfully analyzed the origins and current implementation of Patagonia's business practices from a busines perspective, not a political one. An honest examination of their business practices, the associated pros and cons, and comparison with some competitors make this a great listen. Highly recommend!

A great listen if you haven't seen the TV series
Revisado: 05-16-22
I didn't realize that the TV series is this book nearly word-for-word. I struggled to finish the book because I have already heard all of this information before, and it was significantly more up to date when viewed on TV. This edition was roughly set in the ealy 80's and there are a LOT of scientific achievements that have happened since

In Honor Thy Label, Dr. Bronner’s head of Special Operations, Gero Leson, reveals the inside story of how a little-known family-run soap company grew from countercultural roots to create a revolutionary fair trade and organic supply chain from the ground up - and rode the waves of popular demand without losing sight of the process. Through stories of harrowing setbacks and hard-won triumphs in projects that spanned the globe, in Sri Lanka, Ghana, India, and beyond, Leson demystifies the process of building and scaling ethical production.

Awesome Self-Profile of this company
Revisado: 01-19-22
I've always been intrigued and slightly confused by the cryptic and slightly "crazy" message printed on Dr. Bronners products. This book explains the origins of that and SO much more. I was surprised at the many elements and examples of libertarianism throughout the book. I think they could have gotten their message across in less than 12 hours, though. I would suggest this as a must read for anyone interested in business/economics that is also environmentally conscious. Takes a bit of dedication (and brand loyalty) to get through some of the longer chapters though

Historia
Whenever we worry about what to eat, how to love, or simply how to be happy, we are worrying about how to lead a good life. No goal is more elusive. In How to Be a Stoic, philosopher Massimo Pigliucci offers Stoicism, the ancient philosophy that inspired the great emperor Marcus Aurelius, as the best way to attain it. Stoicism is a pragmatic philosophy that teaches us to act depending on what is within our control and separate things worth getting upset about from those that are not.

A comprehensive analysis
Revisado: 03-21-21
I chose this audiobook as a precursor to reading the dialects themselves and I am very glad I did so. Mr. Surgue does an excellent job of dissecting selected books from their author's point of view, showing the intricate fabrication of these classics. I am looking forward to my first read through of the subject matter, and I am confident that it will feel more like an analytic third read through instead -- exactly why I chose this in the first place. Mr. Surgue's energy and enthusiasm are sure to carry you through the slower parts of the book, and his passion for the subject matter helps direct your attention to the meaning of the group of works as a whole
