Historia
For over a year, Jedi Masters Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann were kept apart by the Nihil’s Stormwall. After Avar makes a daring escape from inside the Occlusion Zone, the star-crossed Jedi are reunited. But while the physical distance between them has evaporated, their shared grief over their failure to protect the galaxy from the Nihil threat remains. To rally the Jedi Order and the Republic, Avar and Elzar cling to their belief in serving Light and Life.

Solid THR Phase III Entry
Revisado: 03-15-25
I give it 7.5/10
I found first half or so very middling and slow; lots of filler and time spent on supporting characters that didn’t really impact the story.
I’m also not a huge ‘romance’ guy, like…at all, but I found Avar and Elzar’s arc to be well-written.
Porter is a beast and I need more of him in stories lol
The political angles of Ro and Soh were interesting, and Starros’s internal conflict was understandable, especially when her daughter confronts her on it all.
Marc Thompson remains the undisputed master at narration, so no complaints there.
The action at the end was pretty well paced, and Gratton dis well enough to keep me engaged.
Overall I found it to be like the ‘B-C range’ novels of the EU. Not terrible, but not overly fantastic either. Solid and entertaining, definitely a worthy successor to Eye of Darkness, which was likely a daunting task for Gratton given how utterly amazing that one was

More and more, the Order finds itself focused on the future of the Republic, secluded on Coruscant, where the twelve members of the Jedi Council weigh crises on a galactic scale.

Fun Prequel Era Tale
Revisado: 06-02-24
JJM really handles the large cast or characters well with their own ‘quests’ that intertwine. The villain is really fleshed out well, and their motives are i understandable even though their methods are cruel and violent.
Overall, really fun story pre-Ep I.

Long Overdue Unabridged Production Absolutely Nails It!!
Revisado: 04-07-24
‘I, Jedi’ uses a first-person narrative to create a truly special listening (and reading) experience. You truly feel more connected to the main character, Corran Horn, and it’s almost like you’re at a cantina slinging back drinks while he regales you with his triumphant exploits which may or may not be slightly embellished.
Because this is meant to fit into a previously written EU novel trilogy with references to other EU works that took place around the same timeframe, there are a few scant moments where some information, events or occurrences are glossed over, but the way Stackpole navigates it all without overly retconning them in order to make his story work. Instead, it’s all near-seamless and written in such a way that ‘Corran was always there, just in the background mot mentioned’.
The only gripe I have with this (long overdue) unabridged production is that Marc decided to change Corran’s accent from previous readings featuring the character. Likely to make it easier for him to get through the whole story given its perspective, it’s a mild thing that in no way detracted from my enjoyment of this story.
‘I, Jedi’ is my personal favorite Star Wars story of all, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Fantastic Phase 3 Opener!
Revisado: 11-18-23
George Mann pulls out all the stops in this engaging and packed-to-the-brim story! This book has it all: Action, Intrigue, Drama, Mystery and absolutely awesome character development. I couldn’t listen fast enough, I wanted more and for it to not end. Definitely worth it if you’ve been following The High Republic, and it does a decent job of setting the scene in that any new readers wouldn’t be terribly lost if this is their first THR novel.

One of the best narrated SW books!!
Revisado: 11-12-23
Seriously, title doesn’t do it justice.
Shadow Hunter is already really great. Fast-paced, hooks you right the way, and the descriptions are expertly crafted to present a visceral and gritty story.
Sam Witwer is the true all-star here. His narration is so much fun and packed with characterization, not enough can be said about it. I hope he can do more because of how well he nailed this one!

Lots of mystery and intrigue; we get to explore something not really touched on before in Star Wars: religious zealotry. Jedha is a fantastic locale, and I’m hoping we get to spend even more time there in the future.

Historia
Shadows of the Empire illuminates the shadowy outlines of a criminal conspiracy that exists in the background of the events in the movies, ruled by a character new to us. Prince Xizor is a mastermind of evil who dares to oppose one of the best-known fictional villains of all time: Darth Vader. The story involves all the featured Star Wars movie characters, plus Emperor Palpatine and, of course, Lord Vader himself.

Abridgment Harms the Story
Revisado: 08-18-22
I read the original print SotE novel in the late 90’s, and it became one of my favorites. When I saw it on audio, I was immediately excited to re-enjoy it in a different way.
Sadly, the abridgment totally ruins the experience, as too much material is cut that would help the story make sense. As a result, it feels very ‘rushed’ in its pacing, and it can get a tad disjointed.
The narrator does his best, and you can tell he enjoys his work. I don’t fault him for reading what he was given.
If you’ve read the original, don’t bother wasting a credit on this.

Fun, Action-Packed, Thrilling, Heart-breaking and Hopeful
Revisado: 07-12-22
What could easily have been a massive contrivance to set up Rise of Skywalker, instead Adam Christopher pulls off an fantastic story full of heart, fun, action, lore, heart-break and loss, yet an twinge of hope permeates the journey the main characters are on. Easily one of, if not the, best of the new canon novels to date, I cannot recommend this enough.

Great Story Cut Short Through Abridgment
Revisado: 03-11-22
After having read the original print version of LotF: Betrayal, I was a little let down to only find the abridged version on audio.
Still a great story, just too bad material got cut out which would have helped deepen the story.
