Historia
The Force is strong in 12-year-old Anakin Skywalker - so strong that the Jedi Council, despite misgivings, entrusted young Obi-Wan Kenobi with the mission of training him to become a Jedi Knight. Obi-Wan - like his slain master, Qui-Gon - believes Anakin may be the chosen one, the Jedi destined to bring balance to the Force. But first Obi-Wan must help his undisciplined apprentice, who still bears the scars of slavery, to find his own balance.

Great Concepts and Ideas but needs more story
Revisado: 05-16-23
There are some cool scenes and ideas, Obi Wan uses Qui Gons green lightsaber, Zonoma Sekot is an interesting idea for a planet, it leads up to the new Jedi order and the yuuhzhan vong, and the race at the beginning of the book are pretty cool. Ki Dav the blood carver, the wormpilot Charza Kwinn and Raith Sienar a good mirror of Tarkin, are all good characters.
However there's just a lot of walking around and talking. Very few action or adventure scenes for a STAR WARS book and Anakin doesn't even use a lightsaber throughout the book. It mainly focuses on seeds that Zonoma Sekot produces that attach to Anakin and Obi Wan and make ships somehow. It's honestly a drag and there is hardly a story. The finale is the best part but many characters don't have payoffs. Nothing happens to Sienar or Tarkin despite being in a quarter of the pages, and the blood carver dies before anything really all that interesting is revealed about him, he's kind of a boring thug type character.
I have the paperback novel and honestly it's going on the terrible read pile of books.

Whitney Houston is as big a superstar as the music business has ever known. She exploded on the scene in 1985 with her debut album and spent the next two decades dominating the charts and capturing the hearts of fans around the world. One person was there by her side through it all - her best friend, Robyn Crawford.

Interesting Insight
Revisado: 04-01-23
Interesting and also sad. It's a great behind the curtain look at the life of Whitney Houston through the perspective of one of her closest friends. Tragic to see her friend spiral out of control. It also has some perspective on some of Whitney's biggest moments.

Great but we don't need a cowboy Jedi.
Revisado: 02-14-23
I really liked how they handled Dookus backstory here. It's tragic, epic, heroic, and a fall from grace. It never shows him meeting Darth Sidious but it leaves enough to let you know just how he turned away from being a Jedi and the council. I liked all the characters except Rael Avaross, I know there are many different accents and planets in Star Wars but hearing a southern accent that sounds like a country western singer really took me out of it, it would work for like borderlands or the road warrior or something but it just annoys me and takes me out of the universe. other than that we get to see him with Qui Gon and syfo dias which is also pretty cool.
Seeing a bit of Asajj Ventress backstory is interesting as well, she's one of my favorite star wars characters. having the voice actress play Asajj is really cool as well. There are a handful of scenes that involve visions that are eerie and interesting.
All in all it was very entertaining and despite being a Canon book (not a fan of Disney star wars at all) it's pretty good and still fits into the world and adds to it.

Too much politics
Revisado: 02-06-23
The book was ok in my opinion, though it could have been far better. It mainly follows Plagueis right after he has defeated his master, to meeting Palatine, to many of the events that happen before Phantom menace such as Cloak of Deception and Maul Shadowhunter, to right before and during Phantom Menace.
I was disappointed that we are hardly shown ANY sith training between the last two Sith Lords. It doesn't even explain force lightning or how Palatine eventually learns to use it or what the dark side is or anything. It discusses old Darth Lords but it never goes below surface level, it acts as almost a pamphlet of sith who have existed in the past. Tenebrous, who is Plagueis master, gets almost no character development or really a good solid reason for commiting to becoming a sith.
Instead the book focuses on the politics behind Palpatines rise to power, in other words it's very boring. There are many, many info dumps about pointless things like Star wars philosophers, art, history that really doesn't matter in the long run of the star wars story. It acts more like a boring history book or wiki page with a few sparse narrative choices sprinkled in between. At least Maul Shadowhunter was a good adventure story that takes place in the belly of coruscant and is quick and concise. This story jumps around between thirty or so years and only has a few really good action scenes, on top of that, there is A LOT of boring dialogue, setting up political maneuvers and things that have to do with taxes. Why do I care? I'm here for sith Lords but instead I get a discussion on free trade zones.
I think this book is good to kill time but it wasn't very fun to listen to. The plot should have been better. I think the way this book was handled, it is a story that doesn't necessarily need to be told.
Palpatine and Plagueis are more interesting being mysterious villains. In my opinion they didn't really have much of a story to keep me interested. The writing wasn't terrible but it was also A LOT of telling instead of showing.

Revisado: 11-24-20
If you are a fan of the clone wars series id listen to this, though set some time after Phantom Menace. Also hits close to home as its about a toxin taking over a planet. The moral is also a good one and the Jedi Characters are preety cool.

Its okay if you are bored
Revisado: 11-12-20
Though it was interesting to see how each of Padme's handmaidens were chosen it doesnt get much more interesting than that. There isnt really a conflict until the trade federation invades then its just episode 1 from the handmaidens point of views. Padme is more interesting in the clone wars becuause she uses her wit and strengths to outsmart her adversarys. Shes kinda just a jerk to Panaka the whole time and he could have been more pf a character than the naghing dad type. The whole period thing is just rediculous as well. Its a good listen if you are bored and into the pre clone wars but it could have been much more.

Father of cyberpunk William Gibson’s original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online. This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs - is the chance to experience William Gibson’s untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.
