Historia
The story of Lady Chatterley and her love for her husband's gamekeeper outraged the sensibilities of Edwardian England. Lawrence had already been dismissed as a purveyor of the obscene for the attitudes to sex that he had shown in The Rainbow, which had been fiercely suppressed on its publication in 1915. Chatterley, written in several versions around 1928 in Italy in the final part of Lawrence's life, was a deliberate choice on the author's part to address sex head on.

Way beyond obscenity
Revisado: 06-04-19
I wish I had not taken so long to enjoy this book. It’s a masterpiece. For Lawrence to have written this story, he had to have live a life of deep feeling and willingness to risk heartache and being ostracized. Come to think of it, he did live such a life.
He puts into words what so few people ever come to experience of life. He intricately interweaves so many complex themes that are at the bottom of human nature. Although written nearly 100 years ago, except for references to transportation, clothing, other externalities, the book could have been written last week.
At times, Lawrence is a bit too flowery and repetitive, and rather than having positive literary effect, the bloom-y words and repeats become boring, but not at all to a great extent.
Definitely a worthwhile read if you crave literature with deep emotion and meaning.

Historia
This collection of 15 stories was first published in 1914. James wrote them as descriptions of middle class life in Ireland but in each story one or more characters has an "epiphany," - a moment where the character has a speical moment of illumination. Many of the characters in these stories later appear in his novel, Ulysses.

Was not as good as expected
Revisado: 05-24-19
I really had higher expectations of this work. The stories are somewhat engaging, but I found myself confused more than once by the intro and opening paragraphs of these. The opening would start developing a character and even set the scene to introduce a conflict, then the character would just disappear and not even be mentioned again. Most of the stories felt, on the whole, like snippets of an undeveloped novel with no real beginning or ending.
I did not like the narration. The readers sounded stilted and annunciated so precisely as to sound unnatural. I found it quite distracting to the point of having to rewind frequently to catch what I had missed.

Historia
To Christina Olson, the entire world was her family's remote farm in the small coastal town of Cushing, Maine. Born in the home her family had lived in for generations, and increasingly incapacitated by illness, Christina seemed destined for a small life. Instead, for more than 20 years, she was host to and inspiration for the artist Andrew Wyeth and became the subject of one of the best known American paintings of the 20th century.

Wyeth's Vision Comes to Life
Revisado: 03-04-17
I've admired A Wyeth's work since I can remember. Often, I have gazed on "Christina's World" and been drawn into the house upon the hill, but inside I can't make out anything in the shadows.
This novel, although partially fictitious, has cleared some of the shadows, and my mind's eye can make out faint glimpses of what Christina in this painting might be seeing. The painting has always left me with the feeling that she sees much more than what is readily apparent in the image.
This book is well written, the story impeccably and intricately woven scenes that connect the past to the future, connect one life to another, connect Christina Olsen to Andrew Wyeth.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Extremely well put
Revisado: 01-18-17
The counterintuitive theories Manson espouses are so elegant, they turn the irrational into rationality itself. Our Western society, in centuries of attempts to improve life, has destroyed our emotional capacity for seeking meaning to Life. His ideas will leave you with much to contemplate.
