the slow burn part was good but how many times can she describe him being "big". We get it. Also the counting was annoying. I like these stories but I'm tired of the MC being a perpetual victim in situations (the situation with her fam) I understand these things happen in real life and that they are also done to make us sympathize with the MC but damn

good but the feelings were a bit too random and not gradual enough. unless Dallas was good at hiding his emotions. also why normalize the grandma microaggressions of falling her random names. she was basically kind of racist and the MC eventually just "let it go". I understand it's a generation thing but that shouldn't be toleratrd.

otherwise a really great slow burn story

I can barely finish this. SO unrealistic.

SPOILER ALERT

What man who cant make kids and finds out 14 years later that his wife lied by having a baby with his BROTHER would be okay with it?? I dont care how Aaron and Cheyenne tried to make sense of it. What they did was WRONG. This wasnt a gift. If it wasnt wrong they wouldn't have done it in secret. Yes it would have been hard for him to come to terms with not being able to father a child but why lie someone into that. He should have divorced her. Hell he should have sued them both. The son was rightfully upset. Then Aaron saying he wouldn't accept the son if he came to him. I hated this plot when I first read it in Priscilla's book (I think that's her name) and I hate it now. No amount of explaining away can justify this.

Then what's the main character's name again. He was totally okay with the fact that he may have a son and missed out on his birth and everything. These characters are so deceitful and everyone is just okay with it I guess.

I love Brenda Novak and her style of writing down to earth characters but lately I'm not sure what's going on. Even Bookstore On The Beach was kind of a mess too. I mean there have been situations where her characters did things I didnt like but she wrote in such a compelling way I had to keep reading. Now it's like she's going through the motions.

I'll reread my fav books of hers but maybe it's time to move on from her being my fav author the past few years

idk there was something missing in this book. and no guy would be ok with what the main character did. no matter how much she reasoned it was wrong. I'm a huge brenda novak fan but this just wasnt it it felt like a chore getting through

the whole Cheyenne thing is one of the worst situations I've ever read in a book. their decision was not justifiable no matter how they tried to flip it

SPOILER ALERT BELOW

Cheyenne who was lied to practically her entire life now wants to lie to her husband about something so serious and irreversible? how the hell did Aaron ever think this was ok.

the lie will hurt Dylan more than the joy of having a kid. knowing the truth about his inability to make kids would have really hurt yeah but him and Cheyenne could have worked through it and possibly adopted. And how could Aaron live with himself knowing this was his child.

I loved Pressley and Aaron's relationship but everything else was a no. Even the fact she robbed Aaron of two years from his son's life without giving him the choice pisses me off and he forgave her too quickly.

Also, Pressley apprehension was drawn out.
