My brother’s kid wants to be a truck driver, so I got this audiobook for him. I just had to go through it first, because once upon a time I wanted to drive a truck. Of course, my interest was purely romantic-based on movies like Smokey and the Bandit. But I digress. This audiobook is crazy good! The author has brought together everything you need to know to pass your CDL exam and more. I can’t think of anything they didn’t cover. They lay out the structure, what’s covered on the test, the different parts of the test, how it’s scored. There’s even a section about what you do if a kid passes you tugging on an imaginary rope above his head (you blow the horn). Ok-that’s not really in the book, but that’s what I would do. But I’m getting off track again. Here’s a big plus: in the pdf that comes with the audiobook, they give you a downloadable copy of a free Interactive Practice Test Workbook! This audiobook is the real deal. Grab a copy of it before it drives away.

I've read a few of these communication books and this audiobook is by far one of the most detailed, yet concise ones I've come across. As two in one, the first volume breaks you into how to effectively communicate as it deals with such things as social anxieties, small talk and the underrated "listening" skill. It then skillfully goes on to wade in the waters of public speaking and communication in personal relationships-two things I managed to ignore until the author made it so simple. Volume two takes your newfound skills and applies them to getting what you want and need by actually making connections instead of talking at others. Perhaps the most valuable piece in this volume is the author's treatment of the "psychological principles" of influence. PHEW! Lots to digest here. I'm going to have to listen to this again. I advise that you do, too.
