Historia
The town of Henbane sits deep in the Ozark Mountains. Folks there still whisper about Lucy Dane’s mother, a bewitching stranger who appeared long enough to marry Carl Dane and then vanished when Lucy was just a child. Now on the brink of adulthood, Lucy experiences another loss when her friend Cheri disappears and is then found murdered, her body placed on display for all to see. Lucy’s family has deep roots in the Ozarks, part of a community that is fiercely protective of its own.

Decent story
Revisado: 08-15-21
Not a favorite but no bad either. I think there was some missed opportunity for character development. It really kind of felt like an abridged story.

Entertaining enough but predictable. If you're good at figuring out who the bad guys is, skip this. I had it within the first 4 chapters.

Great premance, excellent narration. Not as good as I hoped. The story was a little too predictable and PG13 for my taste.

Sweet Surprise

Boobie reads a little too fast and forgets, or ignores, punctuation. Other than that I really enjoyed the story. She shoots straight and pulls back the curtain giving a first hand perspective that is real, and real ain't always pretty.

Historia
Thirty years ago two sisters disappeared from a shopping mall. Their bodies were never found, and those familiar with the case have always been tortured by these questions: How do you kidnap two girls? Who or what could have lured the two sisters away from a busy mall on a Saturday afternoon without leaving behind a single clue or witness? Now a clearly disoriented woman involved in a rush-hour hit-and-run claims to be the younger of the long-gone Bethany sisters.

Revisado: 12-14-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Night Film to be better than the print version?
No Opinion
Would you be willing to try another book from Marisha Pessl? Why or why not?
Yes; I like the story telling, the prescriptive writing and the character development, but was let down by the non climatic ending.
What three words best describe Jake Weber’s performance?
Steady, clear and enjoyable
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
“Just when you think you've hit rock bottom, you realize you're standing on another trapdoor.”
Any additional comments?
Good story, get you hooked and holds you there. The ending was lack luster and antic climatic which was a disappointment.

Yawn...well that was ....zzz...
Revisado: 10-04-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A different book altogether or a more captivating main character..he just came across as shallow and mucky.
Would you ever listen to anything by C. J. Roberts again?
Probably not
Would you be willing to try another one of Emily Durante’s performances?
Nope...too little inflection in her tone and no emotion....flat
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Captive in the Dark?
Not sure, couldn't stay awake or focused long enough to absorb anything I can recall...period
Any additional comments?
Very shallow characters, bland interactions from what I can remember....just seemed tawdry and thin....Mind you I like tawdry but not, what is in my opinion, boring tawdry.

Historia
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a novel made up of stories: 23 of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you'll ever encounter, sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined "Writers' Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months", and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of "real life" that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them.
