Historia
In this, perhaps Dickens' most profound and personal novel, we are invited to share in the sentimental education of Pip, the poor boy from the village forge who risks losing himself in snobbery and selfishness when he mysteriously inherits a fortune. The story moves from the bleak Kentish marshes of Pip's childhood to a thrilling climax that mingles tragedy and triumph.

Anton Lesser is Superb
Revisado: 06-22-16
What did you love best about Great Expectations?
Great Expectations is a given...one of the greatest English novels. Thus, the narrator is a key in choosing an Audible book. I will be looking, from now on, to books read by Anton Lesser.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

There is a profound message in this story, but is is presented so subtly that it does not weigh the book down.
Which character – as performed by George Newbern – was your favorite?
Ove was my favorite character, , but all characters were read very well.
Who was the most memorable character of A Man Called Ove and why?
Ove, because of who he is and what he represents. .

I Love this Series
Revisado: 03-05-15
What did you love best about Bertie's Guide to Life and Mothers?
This series is marvelous, but please begin with the first and work your way through.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Bertie is a delightful little boy, but one becomes fond of many of the characters, including Big Lou.
What about Robert Ian Mackenzie’s performance did you like?
It enhances the pleasure of listening to have the Scot's ( or Scotch...inside comment) accent. Listen, do not read!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It makes me laugh, and, as a child psychologist, makes me sad at times. Mothers can be such a problem!
Any additional comments?
Listen to this series, in order. You will be richly rewarded. If you do not enjoy the first, then find something else. We are all different.

Inspirational and Uplifting
Revisado: 02-22-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Tattoos on the Heart to be better than the print version?
The fact that this book is read by the author gives it an even greater impact. I am so glad that I listed to it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The author has to be my answer, but God and "the Homies" are right up there.
Which scene was your favorite?
There were many, always involving the young gang members going on a trip with "G".
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This was a book I was comfortable putting down...it is not an "how will it end" attention grabber. I always looked forward to picking it up again.
Any additional comments?
Listen to this book. You do not have to be a Catholic, or religious, to find listening to the book almost a transformational experience. How I wish we had more Gregory Boyles on this planet.

Gratuitous Violence and Sex
Revisado: 12-20-14
Would you try another book from Greg Iles and/or Dick Hill?
Not without carefully reading the reviews. I have read/listened to the earlier books in this series, and liked them. I think you should separate the reader from the author; one can be excellent and the other poor.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I would love a refreshing, upbeat, positive story, e.g., Alexander McCall Smith. John Grisham's books are informative in a positive sense, along with a good story line. This book has few redeeming features..
What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His performance is good. It is the text that is extremely disturbing.
Did The Devil's Punchbowl inspire you to do anything?
No. If it were not for the plot line, I would have stopped listening. I did not learn anything except the depths of depravity of the author's imagination.
