I need some distance after this. Right now Jim is dead to me. I will be better tomorrow.
Well done (clapping). Well written. Great story. I hate you. Compelling narrative. I hate you. James Marsters did a great job. I sorta hate him too right now. Really balanced out “Peace talks”. I hate you. Also, you are my favorite.
I sorta feel like I read a BDSM story and the main character forgot his safe word while testing out a new Dominatrix. Don’t ever stop writing this well.
PS. I hate you.

You want the truth?
Revisado: 05-25-16
A nice pay off to many outstanding questions.
Darcy and the 'As you wish' sleuths are at it again. Hired to investigate a suspected "Pet show cheater" who ruthlessly has puts the competition out by injuring the contestant's owners. As Darcy tries closing in on her target everything goes pear shaped when the suspected cheat dies in front of Darcy.
Now animals all over the Enchanted Village are disappearing and fingers are pointing in every direction as Darcy's suspect list grows. Complicating things further the Enchanted Village is looking less and less enchanted as Darcy discovers Aunt Ve has placed a spell on her and is avoiding Darcy like the plague... and the conspiracy seems to be growing as more and more trusted people appear to be in on it.
You want the truth? You can't handle the truth.
This book ties off several threads from the previous books... Delivering quite the pay off as questions are answered. Truths revealed and of course that means we are left with even more questions.
As always Blake delivers a wonderful tale in the sleepy little Enchanted Village and all the usual suspects deliver their special talents and support.
Strait from the magical Village Coleen Marlo delivers her own brand of magic. Once again a narration par excellence!
Quite a fantastic tale...

Before Iceni and Drakon can put their house in order, they must deal with an even greater threat.

Aliens, Allies and Pirates. Oh my.
Revisado: 05-04-16
The road to hell is paved in good intentions and the Red Wedding of The Lost Stars is accepting RSVPs.
This was such an emotional roller coaster. Taken with the last Lost Fleet book I find myself pondering if Mr. Hemry was in an accident and was provided a blood transfusion from George RR Martin.
As always Mr. Hemry (AKA Jack Campbell) writes a brilliant tale. The Enigma Race push into former Syndic space in a move that aims to carve through the newly emerging Phoenix Stars. The Syndics cannot let Midway go. It also cannot let them build a palatable alternative to themselves.
The machinations of friends work to their own dark goals and slowly their efforts see the light of day.
And a Pirate from Gwen's shameful past.
Brilliantly executed. Engrossing. Well narrated.

Historia
It was supposed to be an easy job: find the Dark Star Revolution Starships, destroy them, and go home. But a booby-trapped vessel decimates the Meridian Alliance fleet, leaving Serengeti - a Valkyrie class warship with a sentient AI brain - on her own, wrecked and abandoned in an empty expanse of space. On the edge of total failure, Serengeti thinks only of her crew. She herds the survivors into a lifeboat, intending to sling them into space. But the escape pod sticks in her belly, locking the cryogenically frozen crew inside.

I haven't loved a book like this in years.
Revisado: 05-01-16
This isn't the story of Space Marines. This isn't a story of human verses aliens. This is a story of a the wreck of Serengeti. A proud and distinguished Valkyrie class warship and her duty to her crew.
Follow Serengeti and her Herculean efforts to save what is left of her crew. Stuck in Cryogenic hibernation. Through power droughts. Invading scavengers and her own slowly devolving physical structure. Nothing will stand in her way of saving her crew. She has her exceptional wits and the hands of two small repair droids fending off entropy and working to save the crew.
The narrator brought Serengeti to life. She was brilliant and I will look into other books she might have narrated. If you like SciFi I highly suggest trying Serengeti for the off beat and generous story the author has weaved for our entertainment.

What wouldn't you give for the ones you love?
Revisado: 07-18-15
This is a corny read that takes itself very seriously. Somewhere in that formula magic is born.
This all started out in a familiar way. "I bought this on a whim with nothing better to read." It was much better than expected. Some of the love story was a little too sappy for my pleasure. Some of the voices by the narrator sometimes sent me over the edge cringing the whole way off the cliff.
There is some poetic license, and space silliness that takes place. So with all that, try to remember this is from someone who enjoys a little more reality in his Space Opera than what this book offers (IE. The Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell is more my usual cup of tea).
I LOVED THIS BOOK.
I can't quite quantify what it was about this book. It felt a little "Last Star Fighter" and a little "Space Pirates". Somehow that added just what it needed to bring me over the edge and suspend my disbelief.
Tethered through the whole book our space pirates endure enough twists, turns and figurative cutlasses through the back to make "All My Children" writers weep in envy and squeal in joy.
While listening to the Epilogue I was already on KA's site trying to find out when Nemesis would be released (Hint "Sometime in 2015").
Totally worth a credit, and a listen. Try to forgive the Narration... you almost become numb to it eventually.

The Alliance Strikes Back!
Revisado: 05-05-15
This is perhaps one of the most poignant books in the series thus far. Yes as a wise man once said "Great men are forged in fire. It is the privilege of lesser men to light the flame. Whatever the cost." This time Geary and his closest must pay a high price to save the Alliance from itself.
Leviathan was brilliant. I loved every second, even the emotionally painful parts. I have been feverishly wanting a book that dealt with the political pieces of the Alliance. Boom, here it is! Yet every little twist and turn of the political knife could have jumped off the pages of today's newspapers. Political responsibility.. what is it? Who is responsible? Who holds the reigns?
I am disapointed that Mr. Hemry (Jack Campbell) no longer does the Audio introduction for each book... but that is such a small complaint against such brilliant writing. Thank you for giving us a quick peek into your imaginative world.
As always Christian Rummel personifies the people of this series. His work in bringing these characters to life has shown he is a master at his craft.
Just Brilliant.

Good Opening Book.
Revisado: 05-03-15
I was sure this book was going to disappoint me. I was wrong. I enjoyed this listen more than I have many books recently. I bought the book primarily because I have enjoyed listening to Kate Rudd's narration.
My primary enjoyment was the book was not unoriginal. Paranormal. A little romance. Those of course are in it, but the story is quite compelling.
The downside is that the character seems a little mini-maxed (An early developing character that has a lot of power). I enjoy a build up, Harry Dresden being one of my favorites for developmental power.
I still would recommend this book to anyone who feels a little burned out or just wants a compelling story.

Historia
The colonists of the planet Montana are accustomed to being ignored. Situated in the buffer zone between two rival human empires, their world is a backwater: remote, provincial, independently minded. Even as a provisional member of the Republic of Aligned Worlds, Montana merits little consideration - until it becomes the flashpoint in an impending interstellar war. When pirate raids threaten to destabilize the region, the RAW deploys its mechanized armored infantry to deal with the situation.

Ours is not to reason why.
Revisado: 01-14-15
In the fine tradition of the notable heroes of fact and fiction rises the new star Lt. Promise Paen. Part Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller, Honor Harrington, Kristine Longknife and Horatio Hornblower and undoubtedly all her own.
Promise Paen has left her life and her home world behind her in a gamble to gain the expertise necessary wreak bloody vengeance. Instead she finds a home and family in her brother's and sisters in the R.A.W. Marines. No one can run forever, and Lt. Paen has just been called to duty on the one rock in all the 'verse she never wanted to see again.
A dark shadow has come calling upon her home world and Paen must wage a war both conventional and insurgent to save a world and people she never expected to again lay eyes on. She is headed home. Duty and honor will make her confront all her demons face on.
W.C. Bauers is not afraid to cut a swath of blood and bodies through his creation like he made a personal bet with George R.R. Martin over body count. Not one death is over done. Every drop of blood sweat and tears draws the story forward to the plot's climax.
Much like Slim Pickens in Doctor Strangelove I know I am in for the ride of my life, while the sultry tones of Mae West whisper in my ear “Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride”.
The Narrator, Andi Arndt does a brilliant job bringing the characters to life.

Techno Zombies.. Oh my.
Revisado: 12-26-14
What made the experience of listening to Empire of Bones the most enjoyable?
I had no expectations going into reading this book. The narrator had a pleasant voice and I decided to give it a chance. There was nothing earth shattering, but it played some well used tropes and breathed fresh and entertaining air into it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Empire of Bones?
I really enjoyed the slow paced reveal of the White Ones (The bad guys). This made listening to the story move forward really enjoyable.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I have never listened to Veronica Giguere before. She does a good job of differentiating her characters and breathing life into them.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This whole book was a surprise to me. I cannot say there was one piece in particular that moved me. If I had to choose a moment it would be the reverence the New Empire's troops paid to the lost Empire's sailors. This showed that they took their word and honor very seriously even though the link was tenuous (A promise made centuries ago).
Any additional comments?
I very much hope they release the rest of the series on Audio (Although not wanting to wait I did purchase the next in digital format).
If you like SciFi and want something entertaining and easy to listen to. This is a great choice.

Brian, the hate I bear thee can afford no better term than this,--thou art a villain. I shall weep endlessly and with remorse at reading your awesome book! Idling away a year's time till book two is released (Feb 2014) is an excruciating Ecstasy!
The characters. A flawed bitter old man that does the right thing for the wrong reason. A scarlet woman who wants to earn back her place. A fatherless young man who must work under the new commander of his country, his father. The family man who must choose between his family or his country. A cast of other characters who will dance the jig for you at the end of Brian's fingers to be entransed by. The stage is not lacking!!
Best unexpected rockstar purchase so far of 2013.
