People have always been afraid of the dead. Since the dawn of humanity, people have both cared for those who are deceased yet also tried to keep them away. There are a myriad of legends and beliefs about the dead coming back, and one of the more persistent ones is of the vampire.

Interesting Idea, Uninteresting Book
Revisado: 12-29-23
I really wanted to love this book, because I've been fascinated with vampires for decades. I'm particularly interested in the folklore and cultural aspects of the vampire legends, and while this book gave a taste it just wasn't as much as I wanted. the whole book felt like an introduction, or one chapter. The narration was ok, but the persons voice and manner of speech didn't really suit it.

Historia
La moria grandissima began its terrible journey across the European and Asian continents in 1347, leaving unimaginable devastation in its wake. Five years later, 25 million people were dead, felled by the scourge that would come to be called the Black Death. The Great Mortality is the extraordinary epic account of the worst natural disaster in European history - a drama of courage, cowardice, misery, madness, and sacrifice that brilliantly illuminates humankind's darkest days when an old world ended and a new world was born.

Excellent!

I couldn't stop listening to this book. Medical history is my area of interest and John Kelly brought so much detail that I'd never heard about the Plague. I especially loved the focus on different regions, rather than just England, and that we were given an overview of that area at the time. I will be re-listening in the future!

Historia
Anthropology is the organized study of what makes humans human. It takes an objective step back to ask questions like: Given our common characteristics, why aren't all of us exactly the same? And how can knowing the reasons behind our differences - as well as our similarities - teach us useful lessons for the future? The updated edition of Anthropology for Dummies gives you a panoramic view of the fascinating fieldwork and theory that seeks to answer these questions - and helps you view the human world through impartial, anthropological eyes.

Excellent for anthro students
Revisado: 09-27-23
I really enjoyed this book! As an undergraduate anthropology student, this is a great overview of the field that zooms in on the key elements of each area. It's written differently than a textbook, which can be difficult to digest, and the narrator keeps it conversational and easy to listen to. I've already recommended it!

Historia
It’s been 120 years since the 50 or so worldships containing the few million survivors of the human species set off after the planet Earth was destroyed by a meteor. On the Worldship Humility, Sam, a 30-year-old Airlock Operative, is bored. Living in space should be exciting and full of adventure, except it isn’t, and he fills his time hacking 3-D movie posters and holographic adverts outside the stores in the retail zone. Petty thief Yasmine Emile Dufont is also from the WS Humility, but she is not bored....

Good Story, Even Better Narration
Revisado: 02-11-19
Action from start to finish. The story is well-written, and the characters really grow on you. But it's really Colin Morgan who makes this story worth listening to. He has the perfect voice for narration, and the number of different voices and accents he can perform is staggering, enriching the story and bringing the characters to life.
