Historia
When Hackberry Holland became sheriff of a tiny Texas town near the Mexican border, he'd hoped to leave certain things behind: his checkered reputation, his haunted dreams, and his obsessive memories of the good life with his late wife, Rie. But the discovery of the bodies of nine illegal aliens, machine-gunned to death and buried in a shallow grave behind a church, soon makes it clear that he won't escape so easily.

Well worth the time
Revisado: 01-29-15
Would you listen to Rain Gods again? Why?
James Lee Burke is a master word crafter. He paints images in the mind that Hollywood will never be able to reproduce in the detail his words do. I really enjoy his expansive vocabulary and how it makes my mind stretch to put the image together. Will Patton is absolutely marvelous. He is able to capture so much expression in the cadence, tone and timbre of his voice it seems like I am listening to multiple narrators.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, and it was easy to follow. No tricks, just straight story.
Which character – as performed by Will Patton – was your favorite?
All, I wouldn't favor one over any other. he nailed everyone. They were all believable.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but it is to long for that and my schedule.
Any additional comments?
No one should be disappointed with this series, regardless of which book you start with.

Historia
Women are dying. Women who have nothing in common except the fact that they once worked for the military. And they knew Jack Reacher. How and why these women are in danger completely baffles the elite FBI team working the case. There is no trace evidence. There are no links between victims. Their bodies have no fatal wounds. And the killer entered their homes and exited again like a summer breeze.

Another Great in the series
Revisado: 03-10-11
I am a Reacher Creature. As with all of this series in less than ten minutes I am drawn into the book. Lee Child has the perfect formula for keeping you interested. You get to run down enough rabbit holes to feel you are privy to inside information on Jack Reacher, and he is confiding in you as the story develops. Dick Hill has the perfect voice for the story. He changes tones in his voice for the different characters, and never allows you to become confused as to which character is speaking. You will enjoy this selection.

From his first novel, Mohawk, to his most recent, Straight Man, Richard Russo has demonstrated great affinity for the tragicomic human condition, and here he expands his geographical and psychological claims on the small town, blue-collar heart of the country.

Very Pleased with EMPIRE FALLS
Revisado: 03-10-11
I found the characters well developed. The narration is very well done. There is no difficulty in knowing which character is speaking. The plot is totally believable. If you are looking for super heroes or extraordinarily conniving villains you will not find them here. The appeal to me is these are ordinary people facing problems anyone could face, and how they choose to deal with them. Richard Russo also wrote Nobody’s Fool and Ron McLarty narrated it also. They are a great team with talents that compliment each others talents. I think you will enjoy this selection.

The Dead Lie Down
Revisado: 02-07-11
The story line is great. The author did an excellent job of painting a mental picture of what the reader/listener should see in their minds eye. The narrator had an excellent and very pleasant voice that was appealing to me as a listener. The one drawback for me was that I could not easily keep up with which character was speaking. I wish the narrator had changed her voice or inflection to indicate the different characters. If you don’t suffer from needing to hear different voice inflections for different characters you will thoroughly enjoy this book. Even if you do you will like the plot and pace of the story.

Historia
English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

If you like ennie meanie chilly beanie the spirits are about to speak you are going to love this book. It is fantasy on steroids. All said it is captivating in the way the story unfolds. It is well laid out and follows a clear enough path. The narrator easily brings the listeners across the slow and mundane sections needed to build the story. I have gone away from it several times to listen to something else and easily pick up where I left off. I’ll bet if you have read this many reviews from listeners you are going to enjoy this book.-----------Please vote and let me know if this review helped.
