Weird story, flat narration
Revisado: 02-24-25
This was not enjoyable for me. The story was strange and incongruous and the narrator's flat affect didn't help. Dark and strange, not my thing. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if read myself or by a different narrator. Either way, I can't recommend this one. Guess this author just isn't my vibe.

Socially awkward Chloe Cooper divides her time between dog walking, bartending, caring for her ailing mother, and at a safe distance, watching people and inventing the stories of their lives. Like Chloe’s new neighbors: glamorous influencer Jemma Spengler and Jemma’s husband, Adam, a renowned surgeon. They’re attractive, wealthy, and in a house of open windows, so exposed.

Historia
Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Fun whodoneit, meh narrator
Revisado: 08-23-24
Great story and fun concept. I really did enjoy it. The narrator, however, not so much. He is SO monotone, it becomes tedious. Perhaps the author was going for a deadpan affect, but it was too much. I sometimes lost track of the story due to the boring monotone.

Good. Political??!
Revisado: 08-17-24
Overall a fun story mixing mystery with paleontology. I think it would have come across more serious with a different narrator, but good.
I read the reviews before I purchased this title on sale. One commented on it being "political" so I was on the lookout for that. Um... where?!
The story was set during the COVID lockdown and pandemic. Just factual info about what it was like during that challenging time. If you're able to read this, you lived through this time. The pandemic was not political, it was viral. Like a virus. It happened. Whether you're a anti-science, anti-masker, it happened. Millions got sick and died worldwide. No alternative facts here. If reading about recent history is problematic for you, you may want to only read books written prior to 2020... aside from those you'd like to ban, obviously.

Engrossing, just missed the first narrator
Revisado: 08-06-24
Excellent, sucks you in. I listened to this book immediately after the first and loved them both. only slight disappointment was the change in narrator. Although this narrator did a fine job, I enjoyed the more rough quality of the first reader. Not a big deal, just worth noting.

Delightfully strange, fun, and amazing narrator!
Revisado: 07-26-24
I don't write tons of reviews, but I had to here. This strange, witty tale was simply delightful! Thoroughly likable (and equally detestable!) characters. Most of all, the narrator added to the story instead of just relaying it. It was like he was meant to tell the tale. Excellent!!

Entertaining enough
Revisado: 06-03-24
I figured out who-done-it pretty early on. Story was engaging enough. I've listened to this narrator before and agree with other reviews saying she has an "older sounding voice" or affect.
My biggest call-out is that you can clearly tell this was written by a European (probably UK) author, but for some reason I can't understand, they chose to position it like it's set in the US. Phrases like "uni", "mobile", "torch" all indicate the story is set in Europe, as well as the fauna. Why wouldn't they just carry that through in the story?! Really weird.
Not worth a credit, but worth the sale price.
