Historia
The boys of Huaxia dream of pairing up with girls to pilot Chrysalises, giant transforming robots that can battle the mecha aliens that lurk beyond the Great Wall. It doesn't matter that the girls often die from the mental strain. When 18-year-old Zetian offers herself up as a concubine-pilot, it's to assassinate the ace male pilot responsible for her sister's death. But she gets her vengeance in a way nobody expected—she kills him through the psychic link between pilots and emerges from the cockpit unscathed.

so so good
Revisado: 05-29-24
I love this slightly anti-hero set of characters. This book was surprisingly more brutal than I was expecting, but to be fair I knew basically nothing about the plot when I grabbed it other than there were giant robots. If you are looking for morally gray characters that understand politics and how to get stuff done, this is the book for you.

Simon is the best delivery boy that Mr Edwards’s restaurant has ever had. He’s on time every time, and he’s gotten nothing but good reviews. But he needs more money. His mother’s medical treatment won’t pay for itself, and his father is already working three jobs to try to make ends meet. But it might just be his lucky day: Mr. Edwards has another job for him. It’s more delivery work, but not the usual kind. You might even say that it’s out of this world. Oh well. Beggars can’t be choosers, and the pay is fantastic.

LG Estrella is an amazing world builder and this new series has all sorts of potential. I love the idea of an interdimensional delivery boy just trying to get the demon lord his package.

I love this series
Revisado: 02-10-24
This series does such a great job at mixing humor and healing. The author takes their time building a realistic fantasy world that makes you want to be a farmer. This third book revolves more around the disciples at the tournament. It introduces other sects and their politics and mysteries but also continues Big D's quest and gives more insight into Jin's past and possible future.

Classic YA issues
Revisado: 01-19-24
I have a few issues with the main character. The first is the age difference between her and the potential romantic interests. I just had issues with a 16 yr old and a 21 yr old. And the whole relationship seemed forced and awkward in general. Nick and Cel had more potential chemistry that Bri and Nick for me.
Next was that the MC seems to have no impulse control or willingness to think through her actions. Repeatedly she just runs away in the middle of discussions with other people and always seems shocked that other people are being affected by her actions.
Many other side characters have weird flaws as well. An example is her therapist never once actually has a therapy session with her and breaks confidentiality.

I genuinely hate the MC
Revisado: 09-22-23
The MC is an absolute moron. She seems to only react, poorly, to any situation and puts zero thought into her actions. She ignores what people say, puts zero thought into plans and just charges blindly forward and then acts surprised when it doesn't magically work out. Honestly, I am almost to the point of just skipping sections with her so can get the few bits of Cinder's story. It has been awhile since I have hated a character this much.

Cozy Read
Revisado: 07-18-23
This isn't an action packed story. It's a cozy Read about becoming a wizard's butler. It is fully set up for a sequel with quite a few secondary characters that may prove to be important later. I enjoyed it more than I expected to, and will keep an eye out for more in this series.

Love the worldbuilding
Revisado: 06-21-23
Arg! I need the next one to come out. This is a fascinating world with a great set of characters. The MC has a nice, pragmatic outlook on life that I find refreshing. She isn't lamenting her lot in life or angry about everything. Instead, she accepts that some things are terrible, and works to make her little corner better for herself, and then hopes to improve the lot of her friends. Her goals are realistic and often simple. And while she easily accepts her own flaws and lacking, it is interesting to watch those around her fail to have the same introspection.

These two are a beautiful disaster and this is a great little addition to their story. I appreciate that it's not all perfect, they aren't magically perfect together and that the story does a great job showing relationships take work and communication and understanding.

So so good
Revisado: 11-18-22
I love a good villain tale a Drew Hayes does an amazing job writing one. He walks that delicate line between keeping the villains ruthless and on the wrong side of the law while still making you care and agree. There is beautiful dichotomies here of how heroes vs villains solve problems, with no clear winner on which is the "right" path. I can not wait for more in this series.

Though the scars of the final battle remain, Veranians have come together in unity in order to rebuild. Good King Anthony sits on the throne once more, with Morgan of Shadows at his side. However, a king is not immortal. One day, Anthony will step down, paving the way for his son, Grand Prince Justin, to assume the throne. And Justin wants anything but. A great transition
Revisado: 08-26-22
This book feels like a transition novel. It gives a lot of nods to Sam's books, while starting to introduce Justin's story. It parallels the first book of the series in format and I really hope the author will give Justin & his boo at least one more novel. There were some amazingly mature themes of mental wellness, trauma and healing mixed among the comedy.
Also, the breaks in the fourth wall cracked me up. Much love to an author that accepted criticism and made changes with grace to their series, while keeping a fabulous sense of humor over their own rabid fans.
