Annoying background noise

Narration is the same as the other books except that it was recorded next to a window air conditioner or old refrigerator. There is a constant background machine noise. I would start to get used to it. Then you get to a part where they inserted a pause between lines and its silent. Then the noise is back. It's not horrible just anoying.

One of only4 audiobooks I've returned in 10 years.

I tried but 3 hours in & I can't take it anymore. Out of a couple hundred books only a few have been bad enough that I returned them.

Can't stand the 3rd Narrator!

I was looking forward to this one, but I couldn't take it after 30 minutes of some of the worst narration of any book I've ever heard (had an audible account since 2004) I stopped listening. It's hard for me to read books these days, but I guess I'll have to do that or skip this one. There's no way I could make it through 28 hours of that. Heres to hopping the fourth narrator for the series is better.

The sample should really have the horns

The sample should really have the horns blowing mid-sentence so people can get an idea of how annoying that is before they spend money on this series. It's a good story & great narration if it just didn't have the stupid horns left over from the CD format.

Good story great narration, but the stupid horns

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Good story great narration, but the stupid horns blowing constantly mid sentence throughout the book really suck. It's not a short horn it's long with multiple horns that sound like 3rd graders got loose in the band room. I like listening to audio books when I'm going to sleep & the 3rd graders blasting trumpets makes that awfully hard. I hope the rest of the series doesn't have this wonderful feature.

Couldn't stop listening

It's surprisingly different from the Miles Vorkosigan series. You could even be forgiven for not realizing it was the same author, but it still has some of the humor & is a real page turner. I got so into the story that I didn't watch any TV while I was home or listen to anything else in the car all weekend & I finished an audio book that should have lasted all week in a couple of days.

Writers don’t always make the best narrators

This story is decent (I just didn’t get into it), but the narration was either trying to put me to sleep or make me mad. It kinda drowned on then he would start alternating between quiet & loud so I had to constantly turn the volume up & down. This is also only the 2nd book in 4 years that I wouldn’t have finished if it wasn’t for the faster play option on the ipod to speed things along.
