Historia
Growing up as an outsider is never easy. I was the product of an affair, and when my father stepped up to raise me, my mother handed me over, no questions asked. I had my brother Luca and my niece Alessa; that's all I needed. When Luca passed away, it thrust Alessa and me into leading the Italian Mafia. I stepped up until she was ready and gladly handed the mantle back to her capable hands after I helped her forge an alliance with the Perez brothers. Now, I have one goal in life: to win back Evander Perez.

Interesting story, Disappointing Performance
Revisado: 10-22-24
The male performer reads stories well, but I wouldn’t call him a voice actor. You can’t tell the men from the women, much less tell the interesting men apart. Mexican, American, young, old, angry, passionate, they all sound the same. If you remember the old school radio guy Casey Kasem, that’s who he sounds like. I’m pushing through this two-book story to get to the next which has Patrick Zeller and Ada Sinclair back at the mic, thank goodness!

Historia
Feisty, passionate Beatrice Steele has never fit the definition of a true lady, according to the strict code of conduct that reigns in Swampshire, her small English township—she is terrible at needlework, has absolutely no musical ability, and her artwork is so bad it frightens people. Nevertheless, she lives a perfectly agreeable life with her marriage-scheming mother, prankster father, and two younger sisters— beautiful Louisa and forgettable Mary. But she harbors a dark secret: She is obsessed with the true crime cases she reads about in the newspaper.

I want more!
Revisado: 09-25-23
I’m so disappointed that I didn’t find this story a few years from now after a few more books featuring Beatrice’s adventures had been published because I hate waiting! The book is witty, insightful, and the mystery drew me in from the start. The performance was also outstanding.
I can’t wait to learn more about Mary and I’m interested to see what becomes of Drake and his partnership with Beatrice. I’ll be waiting for any follow up with eager anticipation

Historia
What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

Exhausting
Revisado: 12-28-22
I tried to finish but the storyline was tedious. The plot was plodding (sorry) and the mystery wasn’t reveled for many chapters. The dialogue was stilted and If I heard “she said” or “he said” one more time I was going to scream. And with more than 123,000,000 Americans existing at the time of these storylines this author is determined to show a monolithic type in any story where she includes one.
Darcy and Georgie have run their course for me, but I wish them well on their future tepid adventures.

I couldn’t finish it
Revisado: 09-01-22
If the writer doesn’t have a thesaurus I’m happy to donate one. If the characters “said” something one more time I was going to lose it. Back it goes, because on a dialogue rich story hearing “she said” repeatedly was exhausting.

I was warned but I didn’t listen!
Revisado: 08-27-22
I read the reviews about the voice actress and thought they were exaggerating. Sadly, they were not.
Her performance reminded me of a South African pretending to be Canadian while trying to execute various British accents. It was a little like Renee Zellweger in the Bridget Jones movies but without her finesse. Every character sounded the same and you often couldn’t tell the men from the women. I only listened to the end because it’s the last book in the trilogy, and I wanted to see if I’d correctly guessed the ending (I did).
I’m sure the performer is a lovely actress but as an audio reader she’s the worst I’ve insured. Pure torture.

I made it through to the end!
Revisado: 04-14-21
I’ve enjoyed the Daisy Darlymple series; however, this one was painful to get through.
The atrocious American accents were painful enough, but when you add the oddly placed 1920’s slang it became unbearable. It sounded like a B movie with C list actors.
I’m not a quitter so I stuck with it until the end, cringing at every turn.
