Historia
In their bestselling first book, Prediction Machines, eminent economists Ajay Agrawal, Joshua Gans, and Avi Goldfarb explained the simple yet game-changing economics of AI. Now, in Power and Prediction, they go deeper, examining the most basic unit of analysis: the decision. The authors explain that the two key decision-making ingredients are prediction and judgment, and we perform both together in our minds, often without realizing it.

Excellent Story. Kept Me Riveted
Revisado: 12-29-22
The conclusion of a two book set. An excellent story about what could happen if we received a warning that hostile aliens were about to attack our world from other friendly aliens.

Historia
Twenty-seven years is a long time unless you are trying to save the world. Nick was enjoying a late fall day, happily skipping his English class, when he was interrupted by a little silver ball. A ball that not only spoke, but claimed to be an alien artificial intelligence sent to warn humanity that a xenophobic alien race was on its way to wipe out every man, woman, and child on the Earth. The catch: They would arrive in 27 years.

What happens when we receive forewarning of the future. This is a plausible scenario. Interesting and sometimes humorous.

The Mobile Wave argues that the changes brought by mobile computing are so big and widespread that it’s impossible for us to see it all, even though we are all immersed in it. Saylor explains that the current generation of mobile smart phones and tablet computers has set the stage to become the universal computing platform for the world. In the hands of billions of people and accessible anywhere and anytime, mobile computers are poised to become an appendage of the human being and an essential tool for modern life.

Good introduction to the last ten years
Revisado: 03-24-21
This book is out of date. The book published in 2013 is a good overview of what happened in the last ten years but, it’s going to tell you what’s going to happen in the next ten. Hopefully the author has a new book out.

Historia
In Evicted, Princeton sociologist and MacArthur “Genius” Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as “wrenching and revelatory” (The Nation), “vivid and unsettling” (New York Review of Books), Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of twenty-first-century America’s most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.

Eye opening book on poverty and housing in America
Revisado: 01-03-21
I read this as an Audible book while I did my daily walk. It was interesting but could be a little confusing because of the way I read it. I would stop when my walk was over and not at the end of a chapter. So, I sometimes didn’t remember what was happening from walk to walk. These are real stories of real people drawn together by their poverty and proximity to one another. It gave me a perspective I had not really been aware of. The author tells the individual stories switching back and forth as things happen in each story in basically a chronological order like your eves dropping in on them. The author then analyzed what he found out overall from writing the book and discusses some possible solutions but doesn’t really go into how they might be implemented or paid for. Still am glad I read it.
