Phelps never disappoints
Revisado: 01-23-25
I have been a fan of William Phelps since the first book I read. I am fairly new to podcasts, so I was not sure what to expect. However, it is an awesome story told with the personal drive his words always express.
I thoroughly enjoy his personality and the way he presents the story with surefire honesty & grit while maintaining the honor of the victims.
All too often it seems like authors of this genre are telling the story just to tell it & sell a few books. Phelps never comes across that way, and I sincerely appreciate it.
I can’t wait to hear more.

Black girls and women disappear every day, but not without a trace. Join actress and activist Erika Alexander in a neo-noir, true crime drama as she searches for Tamika Huston, a 24-year-old Black woman from Spartanburg, SC who went missing in 2004. Her case became a rallying cry for other missing Black women in America and led to a growing demand to expose a system that ignores missing girls and women of color.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-30-22
This has been the only audio book I have ever truly struggled to listen to. While the story is sad, and important; the writing and delivery are both terrible.

Our prisons and mental hospitals are filled with tragic stories like Tuesday Storm's. Her early childhood was riddled with torturous "games" and violent physical attacks. She was isolated from the rest of her family, locked in an attic with nothing but a bare bed and a bucket for a toilet, and fed just enough to be kept alive. The experts say it's next to impossible to find the soul's light in a dark past like Tuesday's.

I am so glad to have read this second book. When I finished the first I hoped that she found the peace she deserved. Although her life has been far from what we would call “normal” (whatever that means,) I am pleased to know she found some peace in life...albeit a long road.

I enjoyed it very much. The only issue I had was figuring out the ending way to early in the book. It is well written and performed. The story brings to life situations all too often overlooked. Thank you for that.

Enjoyed very much
Revisado: 08-02-16
When I first purchased this book, I was skeptical. There are a lot of negative reviews, but I truly enjoyed it. The story is well written & the narrator does a good job of keeping one's attention. The plot is somewhat predictable, but not entirely. This is one of the few books I've listened to for long periods of time and not just in the car or while cleaning house.

Where does The Life We Bury rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of my favorites so far!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I found myself drifting along with Joe and desperately wanting to know the story behind Carl's crime. I listened to this book and felt as though I were right there with Joe as he fought his own demons while trying to get through this paper he had to write.

If you could sum up Working Stiff in three words, what would they be?
Interesting, Intriguing, Educative
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book & the stories within it. Working Stiff is a look into a world that so many fear or don't dare question. The author's honest and frank wording makes it all that more real!

Excellent inside look at a Cult
Revisado: 01-21-16
What made the experience of listening to Troublemaker the most enjoyable?
This book brings to light the true insanity that lies behind Scientology. While I know some about them, some of the details included here make it that much more vivid.
What does Leah Remini bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Leah Remini using her own voice and words made me feel like she was sitting next to me in the car and telling me about her experiences.

Insight I needed
Revisado: 09-09-15
I have questioned for years how it would be possible for someone to fall into the grasp of a cult. I've secretly always believed that I could see myself being swooped into one if the conditions were "right." I now know after hearing the words of one who was lucky on all levels to have survived that I was right in my secret. Anyone could fall prey to a monster when he first appears to be the only one who can understand you.

Historia
Forty years’ accumulation of art, antiques, and family photographs are more than just objects for Stanley Peke - they are proof of a life fully lived. A life he could have easily lost long ago. When a con man steals his houseful of possessions in a sophisticated moving-day scam, Peke wanders helplessly through his empty New England home, inevitably reminded of another helpless time: decades in Peke’s past, a cold and threadbare Stanislaw Shmuel Pecoskowitz eked out a desperate existence in the war-torn Polish countryside, subsisting on scraps, dodging Nazi soldiers.

This book drew me in from the first few words. I was amazed at the parallels the author was able to form in the life of the main character. I highly recommend this book.
