Historia
When retired FBI Agent Patrick Henderson calls in an 'X-Ray Sierra India' incident, the operator doesn't understand. He tells them to pass it up the chain till someone does. That person is FBI Special Agent Kimberley Reynolds. Leaving Quantico for snowbound Northern Wisconsin, she finds that a tornado has flattened half the town—and there's no sign of Henderson. Things soon go from weird to worse, as neighbors report unsettling sightings, key evidence goes missing, and the snow keeps rising—cutting off the town, with no way in or out . . .

Good Story notwithstanding the narration
Revisado: 01-08-25
Audiobook narration is hard. Few are as gifted as dreamy voiced KH-S. Because he is SO uniquely talented, I knew P Rawlins started out behind the 8-ball and I really wanted to be fair.
On paper, I can see why they cast her: British but raised in both the US and UK. I’m not sure they auditioned her.
I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve got the book on reserve at our local library because I can’t figure out if Aaronovich wrote some of this book in dialect or if all of the (many) mispronunciations are solely Rawlins’ inventions.
I’m trying not to let it get in the Way of enjoying the story, but it’s tough.
I really REALLY hope no one STARTS their RoL journey here. Kobna is such a revelation, it would be a shame if this story stopped someone from hearing him.

Taylor and Ramm—heavenly match
Revisado: 12-31-21
I have yet to be disappointed by either Jodi Taylor or Zara Ramm—this book is no exception. The series saw me through the first Summer of Pandemic and I hope will continue to see me through more (less trying) times. I wasn’t sure I wanted to start the Time Police books after exhausting St Mary’s extant works—I shouldn’t have worried. Our trio of misfits are as lovingly rendered as the Historians. Taylor’s books are always a treat.

Historia
There's a college affordability crisis happening in the US right now. Tuition rates have soared, while increases in blue collar wages have slowed to a crawl. This adds up to a painful realization for lower-income young people desperately hoping to go to college: there's no way to pay for it. Bobbi Dempsey shares her brutally honest first-person account of the struggle to pay for her children's and her own education on a working-class salary.

Whether college will be a strain for you financially or not, you need to listen to this book. In fact, especially if it WON'T be a strain, listen. Your kids will be going to school with students like the ones you meet here and it couldn't hurt knowing more about your classmates.
Parents, what the author pulled off its nothing short of miraculous. Learn from her in this brief and engaging book.

Completely revised and updated to tackle today’s issues, the 10th Anniversary Edition not only explains what framing is and how it works but also reveals why, after a brief stint of winning the framing wars in the 2008 elections, the Democrats have gone back to losing them, and what can be done about it. In this powerful new volume, George Lakoff delves into the issues that will dominate the midterm elections in 2014, the coming presidential elections, and beyond.

Historia
Trust. Betrayal. Revenge. The Count of Monte Cristo is the quintessential masterpiece of Alexandre Dumas. In Edmond Dantes we find an early materialization of the modern superhero. He is a dashing young sailor imprisoned unjustly for treason. While in prison he meets a holy man who imparts to him all his wisdom. The "abbe" also divulges the profound secret of a hidden treasure. Dantes realizes that with such immense wealth, one could wreak a hateful vengeance on one's enemies.

One of the best readers (esp for the classics)
Revisado: 03-08-16
If you could sum up The Count of Monte Cristo [Classic Tales Edition] in three words, what would they be?
The book is better than, more complex than, more unbelievable than, any of the filmed versions.
What did you like best about this story?
I particularly liked how much I learned about the time period and this area of the Mediterranean.
Have you listened to any of B.J. Harrison’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
B.J. Harrison is one of the best readers I've heard. Able to do many voices compellingly, believably, and back-to-back. Even my kids were stunned when they realized it was all one reader.

Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

My first like this
Revisado: 10-27-15
I understand there are other books similar to this (what if/sci fi/tv/etc). I wouldn't know. This is my first.
I loved it. Fun. Smart. Heartbreaking. Funny. All the good stuff.
The first Wil Wheaton book I listened to was "Ready Player One"—he was great.
He's even better here.
Thank you John and Wil!
