ok story. annoying protagonist. terrible narrator. dnf

the narrator offers a terrible stilted narration and sounds unsure in every sentence. i think it makes hella sound much weaker and annoying. also, not enough difference bw the narrator and hella. so confusing between the narration, her inner monologs and his.

girl has something traumatic happen and has to leave the big city to go to a small town. she's either from there or has some sort of past with this small town and doesn't want to go there. it's a last resort. she meets boy, he's rude, she hates him. very pride and prejudice. at some point he manhandles her and she probably should get him arrested if it was the real world. they have to be in each other's way for some reason and spend more time together and get confused about their feelings. meanwhile the whole town loves her, she's amazing and selfless, she's beautiful in a small town way, whatever makes her irresistible. she then probably finds out that he runs a homeless shelter or that he's a secret philanthropist or something else that makes him suddenly even more appealing. even though she pretends like that has nothing to do with his appeal. she acts like an idiot and feels like she's not good enough for the majority of the book. they go back and forth, now he's not good enough etc etc. they start to like each other even though they both know that it's terrible and against their own best judgment. they finally get together only to be torn about apart by something stupid and some ridiculous plot line. he has a secret past or is married, or had his heart broken and never wants to risk it again, or has some other thing that's going to tear them apart. they break up and struggle because they both still like each other but don't want to admit it. something happens and the girl is in trouble and the man has to come to her rescue only to realize he can't live without her. he confesses his love and she forgets every mean, brutish thing he has done for the whole book and decides that's all she needs in the world. and they live happily ever after. end of story.

I just cannot with this book.

I will be returning this book. It made absolutely no sense. The description of mirror land was confusing so I never really understood. The character motivations were unreal and complete overreactions to everything. It just was confusing and weird. I do not recommend. The flashbacks versus present day were confusing. I think this was an absolute waste of a point.

perfect romance

I search high and low for romance novels that are actually romantic. In my opinion if there is no falling in love but rather love at 1st sight and then sex it is not romance. This is a perfect romance in which the 2 protagonists actually have a chance to fall in love with each other based on their own attributes as opposed to just the way they look. No ridiculous alpha males and no stupid females. I really enjoyed it.

I absolutely Hate a story that starts with love at 1st sight. It doesn't exist. Why take such an absolute shortcut and not develop an actual story and make people more 3 dimensional so you can understand the attraction? Not only is it ridiculous love at 1st sight. But it's also the alpha male that meets the woman and all of a sudden will do anything to protect her including risking his FBI the position. It's ridiculous. I made it maybe 10 chapters.
