Historia
Verona, Italy. Seventeen-year-old aspiring artist Romeo dreams of a quiet life with someone who loves him just as he is. But as the heir to the Montague family, he is expected to give up his "womanly" artistic pursuits and uphold the family honor—particularly in their centuries-old blood feud with a rival family, the Capulets. Worse still, he is also expected to marry a well-bred girl approved by his parents and produce heirs. But the more Romeo is forced to mingle with eligible maidens, the harder it is to keep his deepest secret: He only feels attracted to other boys.

Great story
Revisado: 12-07-24
I appreciate how this narrative expands upon the universe of Romeo and Juliet, providing additional depth to the storyline. However, I have concerns regarding the conclusion, which parallels the original ending of the play. While I recognize the theme that love can triumph, I believe it would have been more impactful if Juliette's fate were ambiguous, suggesting that she also met her demise. This approach could have effectively alleviated the pressure from their parents, either after the marriage or prior to it.

Historia
Hiddensee recreates the backstory of the Nutcracker, reimaging how this entrancing creature came to be carved and how it magically guided an ailing little girl named Klara through a dreamy paradise on a snowy Christmas Eve. It also brings to life the mysterious godfather Drosselmeier - the ominous, canny, one-eyed toymaker made immortal by Petipa and Tchaikovsky's ballet - who presents the once and future Nutcracker to Klara, his goddaughter.

A great telling
Revisado: 06-26-24
The author's storytelling skills and meticulous attention to detail in the retelling of the Nutcracker story are truly impressive. I found it particularly intriguing to explore the narrative from Drosselmeyer's perspective, a viewpoint that is not often delved into. The shift from solely focusing on Clara's perspective to including Drosselmeyer's point of view added a remarkable depth and complexity to the overall story, enriching the narrative in a captivating manner.

Great story

I appreciate how this particular narrative provides a fresh perspective on the classic tale of Snow White. The story incorporates some of the Ultropes, which adds a unique element to the overall plot and character development. It's refreshing to see a familiar story told in a new and creative way, and I think this retelling is particularly well done.

Revisado: 10-05-20
I like about this series of books is that it’s a new take on the Disney stories that we grow up with. The narrator does a great job of telling the story. The only downfall that I wish that they did with separates the books a little bit more.

Historia
I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero. But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado - taking you with it - you have no choice but to go along, you know? Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion.
