Historia
From the author of dozens of #1 New York Times bestsellers and the creator of many unforgettable movies comes a vivid, intelligent, and nostalgic journey through three decades of horror as experienced through the eyes of the most popular writer in the genre. In 1981, years before he sat down to tackle On Writing, Stephen King decided to address the topic of what makes horror horrifying and what makes terror terrifying.

Just verbal self important nonsense. I thought these were short stories. Just author's leftist woke feminist agenda. Please please give me my money back.

Historia
Sherman Holmes has officially settled into his new city, and the World's Greatest Detective Agency has opened its doors. While his put-upon partner, Watson, would be happy to keep the jobs as simple as missing pets, when a worried worker with an outlandish tale of ghosts walks in, there's no stopping Sherman from taking the case. Now, the new duo must investigate a local "haunted" tourist site where the scares are going off-script and otherworldly interference is suspected.

Unfortunately I could not get my 1/2 credit back. I'm finding much of the new offerings to be trite and derivative. I'm getting rid of my membership as I've found many older, better offering for free elsewhere.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Simply Wonderful!
Revisado: 05-17-21
Mr. Millett's Minnesota Sherlock Holmes series is wonderful. He has taken an iconic figure and taken him to a new place, if not a new time. I am usually skeptical of such adjunct stories but his work. I also think he is a closet railroad historian which for me makes these story even more fun. Thank you for a great read.

Leftovers
Revisado: 02-14-21
King must have found these leftover stories at the bottom of a drawer and decided he should cash in one these ordinary stories. Only the first one is of interest. You can tell these were written by a burnt out, leftist baby boomer.

Disappointing - Not what I expected
Revisado: 02-18-20
I thought this was going to be a horror story similar to Stephen King and others. The premises and setting make you think this is what you will get, but don't be fooled. It basically is about two self centered narcissistic controlling who battle for control of all the people in their circle. The woman are controlling, manipulative and oozing passive aggressive behavior. Neither are appealing and you end up not caring about any of them. The story appeared to have a good premise, but like lots of books they seem to have some underlying to sell, in this case woman run the world, blah, blah, blah. Sorry, I just want to be entertained. I got this on sale, so not a complete loss of a credit.

Revisado: 02-12-20
I could not get through more than a few chapters. The author seems to be combining elements of a hard boiled detective with the X files and combining them with really weak humor. Looked interesting but pathetic.

Preachy and un-entertaining feminist diatribe.
Revisado: 09-17-19
Here is the jist of the story: all woman are much stronger, smarter and make better soldiers than all men. Please save me from this absolute drivel. I don't remember any woman saying they should be issued my draft card during the Viet Nam war. This author is making bank giving all the single woman out there a reason why they are single namely that they are stronger and smarter than men and thus scare all the good men away.

If I could give this book a zero, I would.
Revisado: 06-24-19
Another book by an author without an original idea. The author just takes a modern humorless feminist, puts her in Victorian garb and tries to have her interact with many of the great characters from 19th Century fiction now in the public domain. This is about as derivative a work of fiction as you could get. Don't waste your time or credit. You are much better off with free audiobooks of the original greats available for free on Youtube.

Preachy Leftist Drivel
Revisado: 05-02-19
You could listen to any Bernie Sanders stump speech for free and get the same ideas promoted by this book. The basic tenets of this book are: poor people are noble, people with money all suck ( or are mean and/or are criminals), straight people aren't cool, gay people are; single mothers are heroes, only police and the military should have firearms; citizens living in an unforgiving desert only own firearms because they are weak or have some type of character flaw. Furthermore, the protagonist, a single male, is a white knight who agrees to take care of two children to whom he is not related; in this PC, #metoo culture this is just laughable. It is as if this author had an index card with all the liberal constructs he needed to hit and he made sure he checked them all, almost as if he was proving his liberal 'cred' to a group of undergraduate English majors (think Stephen Bishop's character in Animal House). I don't know anything about this author but it appears this was written by a guy with little life experience sitting in a coffee shop in either Portland or Seattle sipping a complicated coffee drink pecking away at his laptop. Save a credit and just watch 20 minutes of Bernie and get the same sermon for free. If the author wanted some plausibility his character would have been running his business in either the bakken oil fields or west Texas where there is more work and more chance for profits, but the author seems to know very little about capitalism or how the world outside a university bubble really works. I am sorry I sugar coated my review. Cheers,
