Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Good listen still…..just not one of her best.

The history is interesting, as the book is about the mother in law of William Marshall, whom the author has written a series of books about.

Love her books! So satisfying and more!
Revisado: 08-05-24
I love that Chadwick’s books don’t follow the same old pattern of conflict, then virgin wooed, another conflict, and then happily ever after.
She fully develops her characters, women are strong and able, characters are intelligent and detailed, and she writes about a much broader life of the characters than the usual 8-10 hour historical fiction novel.
She writes with amazing period detail and atmosphere, and brings intelligence and wit. My favorite historical fiction author for years! 🤩💗

Historia
The year is 1140 and England is torn by the strife of civil war. Oliver Pascal chances upon a village raided by mercenaries and rescues the survivors: an orphaned boy, who is the illegitimate son of the old king, and his mother's maid, a young widow named Catrin. After escorting them to Bristol Castle, they are accepted into the household of Robert of Gloucester, and while Catrin finds herself falling in love with Oliver, she suffers a deep boredom at the frivolity of court life. Thus when the old midwife Etheldreda offers to teach her the secrets of her ancient art, Catrin agrees.

Top 5 Favorite Historical Fiction!
Revisado: 07-26-24
Historical fiction has been my favorite genre for 25 years. This book is in my top five favorite books! A very satisfying story with plenty of unpredictable events and wonderfully detailed characters. Great feeling of actually being there, with detailed atmospheric feel. Excellent story and perfect narrator for the characters/book. Love it! 💗

Historia
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

Uplifting, despite its topic. The author shares her own growth as a result of hospice nursing. She brings her authenticity to each patient and each issue that arises in her work. I hope she continues to work with those in need of hospice. Blessings to her and to other readers!

Not as good as similar novels
Revisado: 03-04-24
The characters are very simple and not developed very well, and appear to have no consciences at all that they wrestle with. Just good enough to keep you listening. Good for “company”—nothing you have to pay close attention to. I don’t mean to sound so negative, it’s just so so.

Historia
In May 1875, Elizabeth Todd Edwards reels from news that her younger sister Mary, former first lady and widow of President Abraham Lincoln, has attempted suicide. Mary’s shocking act followed legal proceedings arranged by her eldest and only surviving son that declared her legally insane. Although they have long been estranged, Elizabeth knows Mary’s tenuous mental health has deteriorated through decades of trauma and loss. Yet is her suicide attempt truly the impulse of a deranged mind, or the desperate act of a sane woman terrified to be committed to an asylum?

Another Excellent Historical Fiction Piece
Revisado: 02-19-22
Filled with facts, this look into the lives of Mrs. Lincoln and her sisters is very interesting and informative. I think it’s the author’s best yet! If you’re interested in the Lincoln’s, an interesting new look at Lincoln’s last photo sheds even more light on Mrs. Lincoln’s mental health. (The last photograph is a documentary.)
A great reminder of the patience needed when dealing with loved ones who struggle with mental health issues.

About 3 hours too long.
Revisado: 08-13-21
This book pulls you in immediately. It’s good historical fiction. However, it’s about 3 hours too long. The middle of the book is the same material over and over again. I would rather listen to a shorter, better book than one that is lengthened unnecessarily (and I’m a HUGE fan of long books—I rarely listen to a book less than 15 hours). This one didn’t have the material to support the length. Just a continuous circling of the characters emotions.

Now remembered as the author of the world's most famous hymn, in the mid-18th century, as England and France stand on the brink of war, John Newton was a young sailor wandering aimlessly through life. His only duty was to report to his ship and avoid disgracing his father - until the night he heard Polly Catlett's enchanting voice caroling. He was immediately smitten and determined to win her affection.

Good book!
Revisado: 08-02-21
A good listen by my favorite narrator. A good story. Frustrating at times, but so is real life. I so wish authors would follow the lives of the two persons once they get back together, instead of ending it once the couple get together. Especially with novels based on real persons and real marriages. I didn’t put “spoiler alert”, as I think we know that the couple always gets together in the end. :)
