Poorly written and badly read

Not horrible, but a three star rating is generous

There were problems, three of which come immediately to mind:
(1) Names: visually, Karen and Curran/Curren are different; when spoken, they sound too much alike.
(2) The narrator mispronounced words. Most irritatingly, “geyser.” The word is pronounced like “guy-ser” and NOT “geezer.”
(3) The book needs an editor. A *really good* editor. Sigh.
I’m just glad it was a free listen, as I’d have been seriously unhappy to have wasted a credit on it.

I’ve long adored Harvey Fierstein and make no apologies for it. But I’d say this memoir is well worth the time to listen to (or read, if you have the book version) even if I didn’t. Interesting man with an interesting life.

…with an awful male narrator. The female narrator did well, which is why the four stars overall for the book. She’d have gotten a solid 4.5, but he was a 2 at best. Don’t hire narrators to do accents if they can’t do them correctly!
