Randy Rainbow, the man who conquered the internet with a stylish pair of pink glasses, an inexhaustible knowledge of Broadway musicals, and the most gimlet-eyed view of American politics this side of Mark Twain finally tells all in Playing with Myself, a memoir sure to cause more than a few listeners to begin singing one of his greatest hits like “A Spoonful of Clorox” or “Cover Your Freakin’ Face”.

What an amazing and interesting listen
Revisado: 07-06-22
I always look forward to listening to books that are read by the Author because you get the full experience of the writing that was intended. Listening to this book I felt like Randy was telling me his story personally. It's interesting, hilarious at times and sometimes a little sad but such an incredible experience. I've been a Randy Rainbow Fan since I watched his first video, that was recommended to me by several good Friends. I can't fully express the experience of following along on his adventure from childhood. It was so well written and performed and I learned so much about his experiences growing up and finding his place in the world. One of my favorite parts is toward the end when he interviews his mom. She stole the show with hilarity in that chapter. I can't remember when I enjoyed a book so much.

I'm so glad I found this book
Revisado: 08-14-20
Kevin van Whye has so accurately conveyed the fears and trepidations of a gay teen hiding in the closet. Been there done that....survived. This is now one of my favorite books. I've read it 3 times already, and that's a good sign. There are so many tells and hints of what is to come that I missed the first and even the second time. Bryson has a great family and they are so ok with whatever path he is on. Kai does too but he and his sister Yaz have to educate their parents. There is a bit of angst and it's so sad that homophobic guys make it their quest to demean those that dare to come out. I've always thought that it's because they have deep seated doubts and are so unsure of their sexuality that they have to put others down to prove to themselves that they are straight. In my experience guys (like Donny) that are comfortable with their libido have no need for that. This is a great book, don't expect sex, but a lot of love and a few kisses. I always look forward to a book that leaves me with a goofy grin at the end. This one does. The narrator is excellent and adds so much to the experience. It should be a Movie. Well worth the listen IMO.

Jimmy Strong is one devastating son of a gun. He's gorgeous, stubborn, a dancer, fiercely protective of his loved ones (to a fault), and intense. He can steal your heart with his infectious laughter...and break it with a single glance of his stunning, rich brown eyes. I ought to know. He breaks mine every day. Being his gay best friend and college roomie is, to say the least, frustrating. Especially when you've seen just about every inch of that corn-fed beauty, he's worked his way into every fantasy you can remember having, and he's as straight as they make them.

Fantastic Best Friends to Lovers Story
Revisado: 05-22-20
I read Football Sundae and really liked Daryl Banner's writing, so I figured that Heteroflexible would likely be good. Wow, it was awesome. I've listened to it twice already and I'll probably listen again. The first half of the book is dedicated to Character Development and kept my interest, but then the fun really starts when the boys realize they are more than best friends. Jimmy and Bobby are so destined to be together, but they have some hurdles to overcome along the way before they discover that. The story is sweet and intriguing and I was so satisfied with the ending. Although I don't listen just for the sex, it was the hottest I've ever encountered in a book. The Narrators are near perfect and I especially like the voice for Bobby. If you like a story with spunky, endearing characters that's hard to put down, with just a bit of angst and an ending that will make you smile, this is it. I feel so fortunate to have found it.

I enjoyed this book, I'll listen to it again
Revisado: 01-19-20
I originally rated this 4stars, but I have to upgrade it. After listening a 2nd time I am so much more impressed. The last 2 chapters are total perfection. I had to listen a 3rd time, it's such a great story.
I enjoy stories of two people whose lives are so different that they would only meet and get to know each other under chance circumstances. Sam and Harper are great examples. Sam is so outgoing, empathetic and giving and Harper is withdrawn and fiercely independent. He has been twice burned by loss of trust, both from his family and an Ex to the point that he no longer trusts anyone but himself. Sam is well-to-do, Harper is barely getting by. I love the slow burn of friendship and trust that leads them to a romantic relationship and Sam's infinite patience with Harper. Sam's Dad borders on despicable, trying to break them apart because he thinks Harper is only after his money. In the end they all learn a hard lesson in trust. I was very pleased with the outcome.
The narrator did a great job and I rarely questioned who was speaking I loved his voice for Harper. When I find a book I like, I want to experience it again and this is one of those.

Historia
When a gorgeous cop comes racing out of a building on Fifth Avenue, hops in your horse-drawn carriage, and screams, “Go!” - you go. You don’t stop and ask for paperwork. Or a badge. Or an explanation of who you’re chasing. You simply follow his shouted orders and try not to kill anyone in the process...But then it turns out that the “cop” is none other than Roman Burke, Hollywood’s hottest star, and our little joyride gets me fired. Now I’m broke, my horse has been evicted from her barn, and I’ve got nowhere to turn.

Maybe editing could help, but so glad I found it
Revisado: 07-13-19
Lucy almost always hooks me with her great Main Characters. By the time I got halfway through this book, I had a huge crush on Scotty and his love for his horse, Nugget. Roman seemed like a good guy too despite his Movie Star Persona, I got the idea that deep down he still lived by his Nebraska upbringing. After Scotty spoke to his Mom when she called from prison I just had to put it aside for a while. The craziness at the "Cottage" just got to be too much too fast for me....but I think maybe that's what Lucy was sort of going for. I kept thinking about Scotty every once in a while and finally, I decided to continue listening again a few weeks later. I listened to it from the beginning and then stayed with it. I'm really glad I did because it was a fun crazy time for the guys and I was so impressed with the way Scotty tried to protect Roman from everything that came at them and the way Roman looked after Scotty. The Narrator, Michael Pauley continues to impress me with his great voices for the characters. I was so satisfied at the end that I had to go back and listen yet again. Maybe it should be edited a bit more, but I'm not sure what I would be ok with cutting. In the end, it's a keeper just as it is.

Historia
Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it. Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things. But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them? Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated. Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

Loved the book.... until the Epilogue
Revisado: 10-19-18
The story is intense and it the characters were so into each other. I loved the way friends helped each of them find each other and it the way they finally did was really complicated but believable. Their persistence to overcome several awkward dates showed their total devotion to each other. Without giving any spoilers though I will only say the Epilogue didn't make sense to me. It's not that it's bad, it just didn't fit, given the lead up from the rest of the book. Maybe that's just my take on it though, I hate that I have to be honest and down-rate it, so I really hope there is a sequel because it left me wanting more. That said, Please read the book, it's totally worth your time.

Requires a lot of patience
Revisado: 08-12-18
I'm somewhat surprised that I even stayed with this book. Several times I was so mad at Justin that I abandoned it for a few weeks. There was always that spark of love that Landry expressed that brought me back. He is such a patient and super nice guy. Seriously, I was so uninvested in Justin that I could just abandon whole book, but I didn't. I'm glad I fought my instincts because finally, the last 2hrs were so good. There was a lot of strum and drang to get there though. Stick with it if you feel that way, it will be worth it in the end. I'm not sorry I experienced this book, but dang, it requires patience.

Don't ever accidentally fall for the straight guy. Especially when he's trying to pry your family's business right out from under you. I should know. Because when Hudson Wilde walks into my family's pub and begins babbling so adorably, I can't help but fall just a little bit in love. But I'm looking for Forever Man, and the sexy American is certainly not him. He's so confused about what he wants, even choosing something from the dinner menu throws him into a fuddle. But those eyes...how can I resist?

Listening makes this great book even better
Revisado: 08-06-18
I read this book before the Audible version was available and I really enjoyed it. I just listened to it on Audible and that made the experience even better. The Narrator, Michael Pauley, is so good with each character's voice, even Charlie's Irish Brogue, and Hudson's Texas accent. It just brought the book to life for me. I've been a Lucy Lennox fan since her first book, and I think this is her best story in this series. Her character development is first rate and as you delve further into the book you really get to know and understand her lovable characters. Charlie and Hudson are adorable. The story is sweet, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, but always interesting and romantic. I love her writing style of alternating chapters with each main character's point of view, that really gives the reader the full story. I always finish Lucy's books with a smile on my face, especially this one.

I was looking for a nice positive story and this one really fit the bill. It's sweet with a slow burn that culminates with a white hot relationship with very little angst and a quite a few interesting plot twists. It kept me hooked and I had a hard time putting it down even past my bed time. I had to listen to it again and found that I missed a few things the first time. I'm so glad I found it.

This is one of those books I always hope to find
Revisado: 06-03-18
I've been hesitant to get this book for months, but I finally decided to take the plunge. It was so worth it.
There are several "interesting" supporting characters that twist through the main plot of Jarrod and Mark, two jocks vying for a coveted Center Forward position on their new high school's soccer team. One of those supporting characters is Dylan, an over the top out and proud exuberant gay boy who is an open book when it comes to his social skills and he's a Hoot. His special way to "get along" with the Jocks is well.... inventive, and laugh out loud sometimes. I think most guys who have been out for a while know someone who might remind them somewhat of a Dylan. He's also supportive, honest and says what he feels.
I like the character development, the competition, and Jarrod's unwavering support to try and help Mark, his always slightly better competition, with the dark mental state he falls into. I really enjoyed this book and plan to listen to it again. It's not only frequently funny, but emotional, sad at times and then uplifting. Sometimes Mark's actions are temporarily confusing, but for me it was a joy to experience and I was very satisfied at the end. Also a very big plus, the Narrator did a great job with the voices.
