A Raw Handler
Revisado: 04-17-19
I have been a Chelsea Handler fan since her stand up days. She is witty, blunt with just a tad of crass. In this book, you will get a few of those typical quips from Handler, but this is unlike any other of her books. You will hear an experience of human transformation that is raw and sad. You will hear the evolution of someone breaking in half in order to become whole again. I really loved this book and I will always remember her thoughtful advice – people can change…even for the better.

Historia
While he's not quite a household name, most people would consider H. Jon Benjamin, the voice-actor star of Archer and Bob's Burgers (and a sentient can of mixed vegetables in 2015's Wet Hot American Summer) a comedy show business success. But he'd like to remind everyone that as great as success can be, failure is also an option. In a hilarious, self-deprecating memoir, Jon lays out some of his many failures in all areas of life, from Work ("wherein I'm unable to deliver a sizzling fajita") to Family ("wherein a trip to PF Chang's fractures a family").

Devoid of any substance
Revisado: 11-20-18
This is another celebrity written book that is just a mere money grab with no substance. This book was lazy and uninteresting. Also, two of the chapters can be heard verbatim in podcasts. This book starts out with the promise of life lessons, but instead is filled with listicles that lacked less substance than a buzzfeed side panel article. H. Jon Benjamin much like Amy Phoeler’s book is nothing more than a long blog post. I did however learn that he has a lot stomach issues from his three diarrhea filled stories that were devoid of any humor. You shouldn’t waste a credit on a book that the author didn’t even care to write.

Historia
Jennifer Romolini started her career as an awkward 27-year-old misfit, navigated her way through New York media, and became a boss - an editor in chief, an editorial director, and a vice president - all within little more than a decade. Her book, Weird in a World That's Not, asserts that being outside the norm and achieving real, high-level success are not mutually exclusive, even if the perception of the business world often seems otherwise, even if it seems like only office-politicking extroverts are set up for reward.

Going from Young Intern to a Boss
Revisado: 11-12-18
This is a fantastic overview of a woman’s ascension to success in the workplace. I specifically mention ascent because there was nothing easy in Jennifer’s career. Unlike most college-aged people, she gets married quite young and struggles with low paying jobs. After her divorce, she eventually goes back to school and finishes college. She worked her way up the ranks in the magazine world and then to online content. With each change in position she learns a new lesson. My main takeaway from this book is that as a working woman you have ALL the control of your career. Also, you are capable of examining what you don’t like and what you do like and determining these preferences are what shape your career. There are also a lot of helpful tips on how to network as an awkward person.
This is a fantastic book for any woman maneuvering her career goals or a woman entering the work force.

Slow Moving Thriller by Obsessive Author
Revisado: 08-06-18
To say that the author’s research was obsessive is not a stretch. The book follows the journey of the author and her grappling with clues and the history in the search of the Golden Gate Killer. The ideas and conclusions she tries to draw from what she had available feels never-ending. I wish this book was clearer on all the people involved and at times it was difficult to follow, it did jump around a bit. Overall, this is a great book that was packed with details and a story that’s fascinated almost all crime-obsessed fans. The narrator did a great performance.

Historia
Our narrator should be happy, shouldn't she? She's young, thin, pretty, a recent Columbia graduate; she works an easy job at a hip art gallery and lives in an apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan paid for, like the rest of her needs, by her inheritance. But there is a dark and vacuous hole in her heart, and it isn't just the loss of her parents, or the way her Wall Street boyfriend treats her, or her sadomasochistic relationship with her best friend, Reva. It's the year 2000 in a city aglitter with wealth and possibility; what could be so terribly wrong?

Vapid Woman Lives on Sleep
Revisado: 08-06-18
Sometimes life makes you want to run away, go home, put on a pair of PJS and not leave until you have to. This book is an exploration of how a woman successfully disappears and refuses to participate in “life” for a year. She systematically prepares her days for as much sleep as possible. The main character is wealthy, skinny, and quite tragic. While I thoroughly enjoyed this performance, I couldn’t enjoy the story. It seemed vapid and lacking in details. Understandably, the idea of this book is about living in the void – there was something else missing. Overall, I would suggest this book, but know there is not a lot going on in terms of storyline.

A Quick Conceptual Overview
Revisado: 04-19-18
This audiobook is a short overview of the concepts of the book Girlboss. There are hardly any autobiographical details, but a focus on quotes and concepts Sophia Amoruso used to start her successful company Nasty Gal. The information while concise is still engaging and I took away practical business advice without having to listen to the full audiobook.

Perfect for a Bookclub
Revisado: 03-13-18
If your bookclub is looking for a new selection, I highly suggest this book. The story follows several dynamic characters and is full of controversy and thought provoking themes. Admittedly, I am in the minority of opinions, but I absolutely hated the ending. At some point you need to tie everything together which I believe the author failed to do. That being said, the story can be heard in almost one sitting because it is so captivating.

Easy Steps for Internal Constructive Criticism
Revisado: 01-22-18
This audible is short, simple, and to the point. The author sets forth that we are our own worst critic and that the negative thoughts in our head should be questioned. Once we realize all of our thoughts, even positive, should be mulled over we can get better at encouraging ourselves and get control over our negative thoughts and self-talk.
I think this book can be useful for anyone and its so short you can get through it in one sitting.

Historia
The Science of Getting Rich is a book written by the New Thought Movement writer Wallace D. Wattles and published in 1910. It was a major inspiration for Rhonda Byrne's best-selling book and film The Secret (2006). According to USA Today, the text is "divided into 17 short, straight-to-the-point chapters that explain how to overcome mental barriers, and how creation, rather than competition, is the hidden key to wealth attraction." The Science of Getting Rich preceded similar financial success books such as The Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel (1912) and Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (1937). In the 100 years since its publication, it has gone through many editions, and remains popular.

Historia
From the break-out star of BuzzFeed and the People's Choice Award-winning comedian comes a collection of hilariously anguished essays chronicling awful moments from his life so far, the humiliations of being an adult, and other little indignities. Matt Bellassai has no idea what he's doing. Well, to be fair, he did become semi-Internet famous by getting drunk at work, making him a socially-acceptable - nay - professional alcoholic. He's got some things figured out. But the rest is all just a terrible, disgusting mess.

A laugh out loud millenial melodrama
Revisado: 11-13-17
This is a laugh out loud book from beginning to end. Matt is a true millennial and his antics are always amusing. I loved his stories and his descriptions as much as I enjoy his online videos. His voice carried all of the emotions in his dramatic tale of a hard life...If you enjoy Matt's persona in his videos, then this book will love him even more!
