Barely Made It to the End
Revisado: 11-04-24
I read the reviews in Audible and Goodreads. I expected an pretty good listen. The narrator was good. The only good thing about the book was the end.

Loved it!
Revisado: 09-24-24
I have read/listened to five or six LHOTP cast members' books. Alison's is my absolute favorite! Her history. The show's history. And no politics. I was sad when it ended.

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Slogged through it
Revisado: 09-16-24
Well, I finished it. An English college professor recommended this book (1980s). I bought it then but never read it. I decided I would listen to it. I slogged through it but finished it. The narration was great. I just never understood what the plot was. It seems like several characters in Middlemarch.

Historia
Born in a bathtub in 1954 to a white mother and a Cherokee father, Betty Carpenter is the sixth of eight siblings. The world they inhabit in the rural town of Breathed, Ohio, is one of poverty and violence—both from outside the family and, devastatingly, from within. But despite the hardships she faces, Betty is resilient. Her curiosity about the natural world, her fierce love for her sisters, and her father’s brilliant stories are kindling for the fire of her own imagination, and in the face of all to which she bears witness, Betty discovers an escape: she begins to write.

Took a Minute
Revisado: 08-10-24
It took a minute to get into the story, but I am glad I finished it. Character development was good. Narration was fantastic. Not exactly sure what about the book made it slow for me at first.

Historia
Thanks to environmental pollutants, iodine deficiency has become a worldwide epidemic. Everybody knows pollutants cause cancer. What they don't know is that these pollutants cause a deficiency that can make us sick, fat, and stupid. Iodized salt - supposedly a solution to iodine deficiency - is actually a nutritional scam that provides a false sense of security. The Iodine Crisis explains how we became so deficient, then shows the time-tested solution to reversing many conditions.

Great suggestions and insights on determining starting, staying, or leaving with any decision. Trey gives concrete examples to help you understand more. In my opinion, the suggestions are applicable for either side of the aisle. He does an amazing job as the narrator. Icing on the cake.

Arrowood is the most ornate and grand of the historical houses that line the Mississippi River in southern Iowa. But the house has a mystery it has never revealed: It’s where Arden Arrowood’s younger twin sisters vanished on her watch 20 years ago - never to be seen again. After the twins’ disappearance, Arden’s parents divorced and the Arrowoods left the big house that had been in their family for generations. And Arden’s own life has fallen apart: She can’t finish her master’s thesis, and a misguided love affair has ended badly.

Pretty good...
Revisado: 06-30-24
Overall, I liked it. It didn't knock my socks off as some of the reviews lead me to think. If "I/me" misuse bothers, you will be distracted a couple of times. To my knowledge, the narrator pronounced three words incorrectly but since I was listening to the book, I'm not sure if she read what the book actually said.

Good
Revisado: 06-16-24
Amanda Prowse was able to describe/write/narrate Molly's decision to give up Joe so well. You could feel the anguish. Molly's relationship with her siblings was lovely. Some parts of the book needed a bit more presence just because they left me wondering why they were in the book at all. The end (epilogue) with Joe didn't go the way I would have preferred, but it's probably the way it needed to be written.

Loved It!
Revisado: 06-06-24
I enjoyed all parts of this book! Every single character was someone I would love to share a cup of coffee. And the narration! Johanna's ability to do so many voices so well is nuts. She is extraordinary! If you have been a caretaker of someone with dementia or someone who had a stroke, this book may bring forth memories. Johanna did such a good job with the voices and POV, it may be uncomfortable.
