Historia
This audiobook contains a selection of writings from Fear and Trembling, Either Or, and The Present Moment, written by Soren Kierkegaard. Kierkegaard's theological work focuses on Christian ethics, the institution of the Church, the differences between purely objective proofs of Christianity, the infinite qualitative distinction between man and God, and the individual's subjective relationship to the God-Man Jesus the Christ, which came through faith.

Historia
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a well-tested collection of practical techniques for managing moods and modifying undesirable behaviors through self-awareness, critical analysis, and goal-oriented change. CBT illuminates the links between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and physical health and uses those connections to develop concrete plans for self-improvement. In 24 engaging half-hour lectures, you'll build a robust and effective self-improvement toolkit with the expert guidance of Professor Satterfield of the University of California, San Francisco.

Still Not Sure What to Do
Revisado: 05-14-21
I just finishee listening to this. It is certainly much better than the other CBT offering from The Great Courses. But somehow I still fins myself confused as to how to apply it.
This course suffered a bit from what seemed to me like a lack in defining a target audience, whether an indovidual looking to learn how to tackle spme behaviors or a CBT therapist in training. As such the course offers a lot of examples but does not go into enough depth on how best to employ each exercise. It also does not explain which exercise to choose for what behavior and why. It is a grabbag of examples without much guidance on how to adjudicate between them.
Think of this course as a demonstration of CBT. To that extent it was very useful. I was able to really get a feel for the therapist- patient dynamic in a session. However, I still don't know which exercise I would pick for myself, why I would do so, and how exactly to apply it. Ultimately, while I do feel like I caught a glimpse into the CBT world, I do not think I am any the wiser about how to use it. So off I go to find another book about it to see if this starts making sense. Hopefully they'll explain things in more depth.

Wow. Awful.
Revisado: 04-30-21
The whole chapter on CBT read like an infomercial for it without ever really explaining what it does and how and how to apply it. It repeats over and over the same obvious things like "if you have anxiety you might want to consider cbt" and "cbt can help with anxiety." Yeah, that much I already know. Maybe the other books are better but I'm not holding my breath. Thankfully Audible has a return policy

What is reality? Ask yourself whether you can actually know the answer, much less be sure that you can know it, and you've begun to grapple with the metaphysical and epistemological quandaries that have occupied, teased, and tormented modern philosophy's greatest intellects since the dawn of modern science and a century before the Enlightenment.

Historia
When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today.

Absolutely loved this book!!
Revisado: 12-09-16
I am what can be called a theist with strong leanings toward Christianity, specifically evangelical Christianity, with its inerrancy doctrines and whatnot. I even go to church on Sundays.
I had seen a lot of commotion about this book and Bart ehrman's other books from evangelical circles depicting him as nothing short of an evil heretic.
I, however, have found this book to be entirely harmless to faith and, if anything, encouraging because of the ways ehrman lays out in which we can learn more about the texts! It doesn't even harm inerrancy, because if we don't have the originals, then it's that much easier to talk about its inerrancy. What's hard is defending the inerrancy of this text which we do have. I'm actually quite glad we don't have it, because who exactly would hold and control such a gem?
This book has strongly deepened my understanding of the NT and piqued my interest in it that much more.
The narration is in itself nothing short of sensational. The narrator brought this book to life. I never cared that much about the narrator and still have never heard one that was all that bad. But this one in specific was fantastic! Clear speaking voice, great cadence and great delivery of Bart's occasional snarkiness. Just great.

Great introduction to biblical studies
Revisado: 11-30-16
The books could also be aptly named "A overview of Biblical Scholarship." To be sure, this isn't a work on theology. Rather it's about the book, its origins and transmission.
I particularly like the fact that author is open about his Protestant bias and does a fantastic job of keeping information separate from opinion. I can trust an author who's honest about his bias more than an author who blends opinion into his/her facts.
The contents of this book are required reading for any person with an interest in the Bible, Christian or otherwise. Because this book is not itself a source of scholarship but rather a compilation of it, the information here can technically be found elsewhere. However, one would be hard-pressed to find it in such a clear, concise, direct and organized way. The summary section at the end of each chapter was particularly helpful for the audio format. When listening instead of reading, sometimes I gloss over details and lose track of the structure of the book. Not so with these recaps.
The narrator's tone and interpretation sounds a little unnatural, but not enough to distract from the book.

Durant lucidly describes the philosophical systems of such world-famous “monarchs of the mind” as Plato, Aristotle, Francis Bacon, Spinoza, Kant, Voltaire, and Nietzsche. Along with their ideas, he offers their flesh-and-blood biographies, placing their thoughts within their own time and place and elucidating their influence on our modern intellectual heritage. This book is packed with wisdom and wit.

I am no expert in philosophy but I thought will durant's account was delightfully put together as he developed the thinking of each philosopher and how they fit in the philosophical landscape of their time.
