Historia
President Theodore Roosevelt forever transformed America, ushering the country into the arena of world supremacy. His brand of leadership was entirely American: confident, compassionate, energetic, diverse, visionary. But Roosevelt was not a born leader; his ascent to the apex of power was not a foregone conclusion.

Great insights
Revisado: 04-17-25
I enjoyed the look at TR's rise to leadership and how it changed America. There is good detail on his backstory and the things that made him who he was. The man is one of the greatest Presidents in the country's history and understanding the rise to the Oval Office and what made him who he was is insightful in the way that the country was developing after the Civil War, westward expansion, and into the 20th century. Worth your time.

Historia
A white-knuckle account of the First Infantry Division’s harrowing D-Day assault on the eastern sector of Omaha Beach - acclaimed historian John C. McManus has written a gripping history that will stand as the last word on this titanic battle. Nicknamed the Big Red One, First Division had fought from North Africa to Sicily, earning a reputation as stalwart warriors on the front lines and rabble-rousers in the rear. Yet on D-Day, these jaded combat veterans melded with fresh-faced replacements to accomplish one of the most challenging and deadly missions ever.

Humbling
Revisado: 04-17-25
I would describe this book as one that reminds me of all the things I should be grateful for through the sacrifice of The Greatest Generation. The book paints a vivid and striking picture of what the morning of June 6, 1944 was like for the soldiers storming Omaha Beach. It is in some ways unbelievable in it's brutality and the ability for those American soldiers to push through that horror for the world's greater good. Worth reading more than once.

Here’s the sad truth….in this day and age, you will struggle to find a book that doesn’t move into a critique of general Washington using today’s perspective of wokeness. This author avoided that nonsense. He paints a ln honest picture of the man from youth to death. A picture that shows his nuance. His shortcomings. His ultimate strengths. The man was a pillar and is still the greatest President to hold the office, imo. This book is well worth your time.

Historia
The summer of 1876 was a key time period in the development of the mythology of the Old West. Many individuals who are considered legends by modern listeners were involved in events that began their notoriety or turned out to be the most famous—or infamous—moments of their lives. Those individuals were Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok, and Jesse James. The Summer of 1876 weaves together the timelines of the events that made these men legends.

Wonderful weaving of history
Revisado: 08-09-24
I love the look into things that are so famous and happening at the same time. Author did a great job weaving things together. Is it a deep dive? No. It isn’t meant to be. It’s a great listen and will give you an overview and probably, like me, peak your interest into something specific. For me? Onto a biography about Wild Bill. Worth reading.

Historia
I'm Staying with My Boys is a firsthand look inside the life of one of the greatest heroes of the Greatest Generation. Sgt. John Basilone held off 3000 Japanese troops at Guadalcanal after his 15-member unit was reduced to three men. At Iwo Jima he single-handedly destroyed an enemy blockhouse, allowing his unit to capture an airfield. Minutes later he was killed by an enemy artillery round. He was the only Marine in World War II to have received the Medal of Honor, the Navy Cross, and a Purple Heart.

Truly the Greatest Generation
Revisado: 08-09-24
The book does a magnificent job of giving you insight about what this hero experienced. His bravery. His humility. His ultimate sacrifice for our country and freedom. He exemplified the spirit of this country during that war of wars. I truly believe that today’s youth should have to listen to books like this and be given a deeper perspective of what the true cost of the freedom we enjoy looks like. A great read. Narration is just okay.
