Historia
Dorothy Graham is dead, which is inconvenient, not least for her. Luckily, she has planned for this eventuality. Now, if any of the truly dreadful people she is related to want to get their hands on her money, they’re going to have to do so via a fiendish difficult and frankly bizarre competition of Dorothy’s devising. After all, just because you’re dead, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a last laugh at the expense of people who made your life miserable.

Laugh Out Loud Fun
Revisado: 03-23-25
I haven’t laughed so hard at a book in a long, long time. Although the narration left a lot to be desired, the laughs more than made up for it.
I highly recommend this book for a delightful break from the same old same old we’ve all been reading.

So Much Potential…Wasted
Revisado: 11-27-24
The premise of this novel was intriguing and the first half read like a pretty good first novel attempt. However in the second half the author simply foundered. I found myself saying out loud “Excuse me, what?” several times.
Such a disappointment.

Interesting but not Riveting
Revisado: 03-28-24
I love Dervla McTiernan’s body of work. This particular book, however, approaches a young girl’s murder from a quite different perspective.
What happens to the families of the victim and the perpetrator while they are waiting to find out the fate of their loved one? Sadly, I don’t think the characters were as fully fleshed out as in McTiernan’s other books,
Also, the story is told from multiple points of view - parents, siblings, investigators, and townspeople. The narration is not the best, and it was difficult to warm up to any of these characters.
All that being said, this book is still worth the credit and worth a listen, so 3.5 stars out of 5.

A story as good as The Nightingale!
Revisado: 02-17-24
What an emotional roller coaster! I didn’t think Kristin Hannah could pen another book that moved me as much as “The Nightingale”, but wow, just wow!
“The Women” tells the story of the women who served in Vietnam and the struggles they had on their return by focusing on one women’s story.
I cried. A lot. But I’ve just finished listening and I want to start it again.

Historia
A successful film professor and podcaster, Bodie Kane is content to forget her past—the family tragedy that marred her adolescence, her four largely miserable years at a New Hampshire boarding school, and the murder of her former roommate, Thalia Keith, in the spring of their senior year. Though the circumstances surrounding Thalia’s death and the conviction of the school’s athletic trainer, Omar Evans, are hotly debated online, Bodie prefers—needs—to let sleeping dogs lie.

Teenaged angst personified
Revisado: 01-03-24
Although this story is supposed to have been written from the perspective of a grown woman it read more like a teenage girl’s diary.
There were NO sympathetic characters aside from Omar, who had already been imprisoned for the crime.
What an absolute waste of my time!

Stunning book read by the perfect narrator
Revisado: 07-08-23
The Covenant of Water is a wonderful book to lose oneself in. This lyrical story of one family’s trials and triumphs had me listening and then rewinding so I could savor the story again.
The audiobook was read by the author and his accent and inflections enhanced my listening experience.

Too long by half
Revisado: 08-19-22
The premise for this story was interesting but the overwrought descriptions of Michael and Dani’s relationship and interactions did nothing to move the story along. I found myself gritting my teeth and listening at 1.2 then 1.3 speed just to get through to the detective portions of the story. Perhaps, Ms Harmon, it’s time for a new editor?

Wonderful concept sadly under-developed
Revisado: 06-10-22
The author has some wonderful themes - Australian Aborigines, WW1 and soldier repatriation, opal mining, and just Australian history in general, but disappointingly none of the themes are fully developed.
We the readers are left wanting so much much more than was delivered. I believe I’ll have to listen to a book by Bryce Courtenay now just to get my Australian fix.

Totally Juvenile book
Revisado: 05-12-22
This is one of the worst books I’ve ever attempted to listen to on Audible. The plot was a retelling of a pre-teen’s dream of the perfect video game. The protagonist collected money & powers at every turn and somehow justified killing people constantly.
The only good thing about this book is that I’ll know better than to download anything written by James Haddock again!
