Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

I think I am the only one who doesn't love this?
Revisado: 05-04-19
I actually got half-way through the book and had no interest in finishing it -- and I rarely just don't finish a book! Its not a bad book but for some reason it just didn't click with me. I felt like it was very slow and I kept waiting to get to the "meat" of the story. It was also honestly a bit depressing. Clearly my opinion is in the minority since this book is so well-loved, so if you're debating, its probably worth a shot! It just wasn't for me.

Historia
There comes a time in every sitcom actress’ life when she is faced with the prospect of writing a book. When Ellie Kemper’s number was up, she was ready. Contagiously cheerful, predictably wholesome, and mostly inspiring except for one essay about her husband’s feet, My Squirrel Days is a funny, freewheeling tour of Ellie’s life - from growing up in suburban St. Louis with a vivid imagination and a crush on David Letterman to moving to Los Angeles and accidentally falling on Doris Kearns Goodwin.

If you love Ellie Kemper get this book!
Revisado: 10-14-18
I absolutely adored this book -- it is one of my favorite books I have ever listened to! Ellie Kemper's writing is just as hilarious and entertaining as her acting. I was having a bad day and immediately felt uplifted when I got in my car and started listening to this book. I also highly recommend listening over reading it in print -- her voice and the way that she reads are part of what make it so dang funny.
I listened to this book while driving and was laughing out loud so hard that I was actually embarrassed that people driving beside me could see me cracking up alone in my car. Ellie is hysterical and the way she tells her stories make her relatable. This book is such a treat and I cannot recommend it enough! Its the perfect dose of happy that we all need in our lives.

At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was fascinating to learn about the way people lived and the practices of midwives at the time. It was also an entertaining story and the narrator was lovely!
I highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially women.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

This book is such a treat! It’s a funny and entertaining mystery of sorts that tugs at your heart. I wasn’t really sure if I would enjoy it but I finished it in 4 days — and that’s only because I made myself space it out a little more :) one of my new favorite books!

Disappointing!!
Revisado: 05-31-18
I LOVE books about health, nutrition, etc. but this was painful. It felt like a 15 hr ad for this guy's work. He kept talking about how amazing his techniques were and how many people he had helped but after 2 and a half hours he still hadn't begun to explain how. It was also terribly dry and boring. I couldn't even finish the book.

Historia
Among our greatest fears is the dread of what others would think of us "if they only knew" - the parts of our past we hope to forget, the parts of our present we work to conceal. Yet the part we actually do the best job of hiding is not the unsightly debris of our own mess, but rather the stunning beauty of God's grace. The fear that demands we protect this false image at all costs leads us to unwittingly declare a false gospel at every turn. Jamie Ivey finally grew tired of doing that, tired of being too ashamed and insecure to let others see the full extent of what God was capable of doing with our unworthiness. So she quit hiding.

This book is for EVERYONE!
Revisado: 05-30-18
Wow! I wasn't sure about this book because I was worried it would be a little bit too "basic" of a book for Christian women -- where the author "admits" their struggles except they only admit what wouldn't shine a bad light on themselves. You know like the "occasionally I snap at my kids" or "sometimes me and my husband argue" or "sometimes I gossip" or something like that.. anyone else read a book like that?
But this book is real, raw, and honest. Jamie describes her real human experience -- of falling, trying, failing, trying again, stumbling after you think you've "gotten it together" and the Jesus who redeems it all and never gives up on her.
This book is for EVERYONE - for the girl who struggles with what Jamie did, for the girl who has different vices, for the woman who judges others too harshly, for the girl who thinks she's too far gone. This is for YOU.

Historia
Like millions of her millennial peers, Rachel Held Evans didn't want to go to church anymore. The hypocrisy, the politics, the gargantuan building budgets, the scandals - church culture seemed so far removed from Jesus. Yet despite her cynicism and misgivings, something kept drawing her back. And so she set out on a journey to understand the Church and to find her place in it.

The writing style isn’t for me.
Revisado: 05-29-18
I fell in love with Rachel’s writing in “A Year of Biblical Womanhood” and I couldn’t wait to read another book by her! Unfortunately, I was really disappointed in this book. It is not the easy to read, almost conversational writing that I loved.
This book is much more metaphorical and her writing in it is almost poetic. It is indeed beautiful, don’t get me wrong! But it was hard for me to listen to. I couldn’t get into it and I didn’t find it entertaining at all. It was so poetic that I found myself zoning out or it would go over my head. I did enjoy the few stories I could pick out while listening.
In the end I returned after only reading a few chapters. If you like poetic writing this might be for you! But if that’s not your thing, I don’t recommend.

Strong-willed and independent, Rachel Held Evans couldn’t sew a button on a blouse before she embarked on a radical life experiment - a year of biblical womanhood. Intrigued by the traditionalist resurgence that led many of her friends to abandon their careers to assume traditional gender roles in the home, Evans decides to try it for herself, vowing to take all of the Bible’s instructions for women as literally as possible for a year.

Read it!! So worth your credit!
Revisado: 05-29-18
I LOVE this book! This is such a fun read! This book is not only funny and entertaining but it is actually quite educational, and at times really beautiful and insightful. Rachel has a different biblical "challenge" each month and hearing about her experiences was hilarious. I also enjoyed hearing her husband's take on her challenges. My fiance listened to several hours of this book with me on a trip and he thoroughly enjoyed it as well!
What makes this book even better is that I actually learned A LOT about history and the bible through Rachel's research. And her beautiful insight on the more troubling aspects of biblical womanhood is inspiring and comforting (and makes me want to buy a hard copy so that I can bookmark certain pages).
I am actually considering listening again (which is something I am never drawn to do)!

Amazing book for ANY yogi
Revisado: 02-12-18
I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this book--honestly, I didn't even know who Andrea was! I was so pleasantly surprised by how easy of a listen this book was. It was educational, inspirational, and informative. In this book Andrea tells you stories from her experiences, guides you through different exercises, and gives you little nuggets of wisdom that take you from your mat and through your everyday life.
I think it would be an awesome book for all yogis--from beginners to those who are advanced/very experienced! I was in a bit of a rut with my yoga practice, but this was just the inspiration I needed to get back on my mat.
