The Merry Band of Pirates stopped the enemy from stealing a Sentinel, and destroyed its Elder starship, so why weren’t the Pirates planning a victory party? The enemy was not what they thought it was. It was much, much worse.

Worth the wait
Revisado: 10-09-24
I’ve been anticipating this book for a while and it delivered. The skippy and Joe banter is top notch. As much as I love these books RC Bray is what really sells them. His performance is spectacular. I think he really enjoys playing skippy lol. But yeah, if you are a fan of this series this is one of the best.

One of the best halo books
Revisado: 09-03-24
I don’t care for the narrator. The way he talks sounds like he’s trying to make everything more dramatic than it is. But the story is easiest one of the best I’ve listened to. It starting out as a murder mystery was a nice change from the others set in war. Veta Lopis is a great addition to the universe, I can’t wait to read more about her. The Spartans were awesome, of course, and it was neat to see Fred in a leadership role. Add in a little bit of forerunner tech and that’s a damn good halo book. Easy 9/10 book.

Historia
After seven years of bitter war, the end has come at last for the conflict known infamously as the Horus Heresy. Terra now lies within the Warmaster’s sights, the Throneworld and the seat of his father’s rule. Horus’ desire is nothing less than the death of the Emperor of Mankind and the utter subjugation of the Imperium. He has become the ascendant vessel of Chaos and amassed a terrible army with which to enact his will and vengeance. But the way to the Throne will be hard as the primarch Rogal Dorn, the Praetorian and protector of Terra, marshals the defences.

Maybe I just don’t get it
Revisado: 01-13-24
This was my first journey into the world of Warhammer and I hate that I dont like it. I went in expecting hard sci-fi but this could have easily been set in medieval Europe. A lot of talk of oaths and honor and gods but in space ships with power armor. The author spends a great deal of time overly describing what’s going on with, at times, excessively grandiose language. “The precision bullet ricocheted off his crimson cremate armor like a pebble tossed by a child’s hand” type stuff. As Peter Griffin would say “it insists upon itself.” I don’t know if it’s his style or what but it’s not for me. The narrator does a fantastic job though.

Not quite as good as the first 2
Revisado: 06-02-23
It’s still quite good even if it’s not as good as the others. The story is a little slower paced with multiple different POVs which is a change from the first 2. Things are starting to get a little repetitive with the all powerful ai that can do literally anything but it’s still a good story with some great humor sprinkled in. I’m hooked on this series and expect to finish the rest, this one just didn’t hit quite the same with me. The performance is still top notch. The narrator is able to use different voices without sounding weird or forced and has a very nice pace. Very easy to listen to.
I kinda wish someone would pick this up as a tv series. I’ve noticed many of the event are arranged in a way that would very easily translate into an episodic tv series. Here’s to hoping lol

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Borderline perfect
Revisado: 05-24-23
The only reason this book doesn’t get 5 stars from me is because of a very minor nitpick. As this book as written as a narration by the main character some of the details have to be hand waved and summarized in a way that can be jarring at times but seeing how the narrator is an army Sargent it sort of makes sense. Otherwise this is a fantastic book. The author sets up a great universe, great characters. It’s great sci-fi that doesn’t get overly technical (aka boring) with the details. There were many parts where I actually laughed out loud while listening. I picked up the second book immediately after finishing. Would highly recommend.
