Sappy and contrived
Revisado: 03-29-24
The premise is cute but seems a bit too juvenile for a seasoned writer. Leland, a lonely 16 year old boy yearns to find love with another boy, perhaps one whose misfortunes have left him homeless and destitute. Then, like magic, Doug, a victim of his family’s conservative driven cruelty, shows up the very next day needing a job, a home and of course, a boyfriend. Is it coincidence or just a little too contrived to be plausible? The bathetic schmaltz and fake political outrage take this tale of young love too over the top for my taste.
