Historia
Everyone is programmed a little differently, and Bill Gates' unique insight led to business triumphs that are now widely known: the twenty-year-old who dropped out of Harvard to start a software company that became an industry giant and changed the way the world works and lives; the billionaire many times over who turned his attention to philanthropic pursuits to address climate change, global health, and U.S. education.

Laughter, Loss, and Legacy in Bill Gates’ Story
Revisado: 04-29-25
I thought this might be a long read and wondered if I would find it interesting, especially once I realized the book only follows Bill from birth up until Microsoft’s move to Seattle. I was wrong—this is a really good, funny, and heartwarming audiobook.
As a seasoned developer myself, Bill Gates has always been a name I’ve both loved and hated at times, but his story is absolutely worth the time.
I was especially touched by the stories about his childhood friend, Kent Evans. I hadn’t heard of Kent before, but the way Bill spoke about him brought their friendship vividly to life. I laughed out loud at some of the stories—they clearly had a lot of fun together, and Kent seemed like quite the character. It’s incredibly moving to see how deeply Bill still values that friendship and honors Kent’s memory all these years later. I imagine Kent’s family must feel both proud and comforted knowing how warmly and publicly Bill remembers him. It honestly brought a tear to my eye. I also appreciated the epilogue and the touching encounter with Kent's father many years later.
A great listen for anyone interested in the origins of computers, Microsoft, or simply a human story told with honesty and heart.

Historia
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Some books you don't want to end... and then this
Revisado: 04-07-25
Some audiobooks you just don't want to end... and then there's this one: 20+ hours of Bono. I'm not a massive fan of U2, but I enjoy most of their music, though I’m not as fond of their later work.
However, this book... some parts were okay, but others were downright mindless drivel. There was a lot of religious rambling, family drama, name-dropping, and a few bits about U2 sprinkled in here and there.
I usually make a point to finish every book I start, but this one was a real slog. After 20 hours, I was just glad it was finally over.

Historia
Written to take advantage of the brief window between the end of lockdown and Jimmy getting cancelled for saying something unforgivable to Lorraine Kelly, this book is as timely as it is unnecessary. Because you might be interested in Jimmy's life but he's damn sure you're a lot more interested in your own, Before & Laughter is about both of you. But mainly him.

Great listen for fans of music and Van Halen!
Revisado: 09-22-24
Came across this title by chance, but so glad I did. It almost immediately became the only thing I listened to during 30 minute commutes to work and then the following weekend. A really, really interesting book with fantastic content. I found myself being excited to put my AirPods back on to allow for new content to flow! Recommended for fans of The Doobie Brothers, Van Halen and music in general.

Historia
Joe Dispenza, DC, has spent decades studying the human mind-how it works, how it stores information, and why it perpetuates the same behavioral patterns over and over. In the acclaimed film What the Bleep Do We Know!?, he began to explain how the brain evolves - by learning new skills, developing the ability to concentrate in the midst of chaos, and even healing the body and the psyche. Evolve Your Brain presents this information in depth, while helping you take control of your mind.

Extremely technical
Revisado: 09-09-23
An interesting listen, but I found myself not being all that interested in the extremely technical information about the brain presented in the first chapters. It became a bit more practical towards the end so I’m glad I completed it.

Historia
Mark Schwartz, author of leadership classics A Seat at the Table and The Art of Business Value, reveals a new (empowering) model for the often soul-shattering, frustrating, Kafkaesque nightmare we call bureaucracy. Through humor, a healthy dose of history and philosophy, and real-life examples from his days as a government bureaucrat, Schwartz shows IT leaders (and the whole of business) how to master the ways of the Monkey, the Razor, and the Sumo Wrestler to create a lean, learning, and enabling bureaucracy.

Good content, but annoying footnotes
Revisado: 08-28-22
I found the constant audio of reading editor and author footnotes annoying and counter productive to the natural flow of the story. Wish I could turn them off as they did not add anything, but got in the way. Glad I completed it as Part III is the most useful part.
