I cannot get past the narration
Revisado: 01-26-25
Ms. Lamott may have a wonderful book, but she should have hired a narrator. Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard, and I barely got through the (unbelievably long) introduction.

Love, Love, LOVE!

Oh my gosh - it's a kitty litter cake!! They are SO much fun to make, and yummy too! Look it up... but it definitely has a "place and time". I took it to the North Carolina high school where I worked, for the staff Halloween meal. One teacher loved it so much that he asked me to make one for gift wife's birthday party the next week.

There's no place like home for the holidays ... especially for Lesley Carver. Life in the big city just wasn't her jam and now she's back in Hickory Falls, working at the family diner and helping her mom after she took a tumble. Lesley longs to build a life here, working at the cafe, selling her handmade ornaments and ... er, apparently reviving her high school crush on her best friend’s older brother. Only one problem, her mom wants her to leave Hickory Falls far behind.

A wonderful book!
Revisado: 07-02-24
This book is very well-written. It’s obvious that Ms. Rivers has a passion for learning & sharing the back story of familiar characters in the Bible.
Unfortunately, the narrator reads these stories as someone who is unfamiliar with the basics of the English language. Her pronunciation of some of the simplest words and her stilted reading are very distracting to me… to the point that I doubt I will be able to finish the book. I won’t return it, out of respect for the author, but will probably purchase & read it on Kindle or in paperback.

Historia
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

I love the fact that, even in 2024, I can find a good book that has no cuss words and no sex. I can safely recommend this book to my early-teen granddaughter!

Although this book is very short, it pulls you in quickly. I immediately felt like I knew Mary, and wanted to be her friend. I fully intend to order copies of the book for each of my granddaughters as they learn to read. One will get it for Christmas this year. The others will as their reading skills develop. I highly recommend this story to anyone who loves books, grandmothers, and doll friends!

Weird, not in a good way

The performers did a good job with the material they had to work with. The story led up to an ending with more dangling strings than a fringed jacket.
