This sounded like it was recorded on a phone, or a really low quality system. I did not like the female narrators voice, but the male was good. They both had very different volumes which was really annoying to have to keep changing my volume as I listened, and I had to listen at 1.7 speed because it was slow.

I liked this story, but it wasnt something that was super gripping. It was nice background noise, and a decent enough story. I liked the premise of a female bounty hunter and other magical beings, which gave D&D vibes, but there wasnt a lot of depth to this story and it felt incomplete.

Absolutely ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Speechless. This was so intense.

It is only fitting that I started this book on my birthday when the premise of the two main characters’ meeting was their shared birthday and being birthday twins. Everything about this was weird, and twisty, and dark, and you never knew what was actually happening or going to happen. I devoured this audiobook, and it was narrated spectacularly with British accents that just make it a million times better automatically. As Alix and Josie's lives were intertwined, everything unfolded so well and was woven so perfectly to give us a story with multiple options for the ending and all of the twists and WTF moments. If you're a Crime Junkie or any kind of true crime podcast person, this was amazing. The audiobook had clips from the podcasts in the book that were recorded like actual podcasts, so it felt you were really in the story listening to the podcasts trying to figure it out as a listener but then also getting Josie and Alix's perspectives by reading/listening to the book at the same time. This was such a perfect read, and I'm definitely going to be reading more from Lisa Jewell and hope this book gets another one released with the alternate perspective of the ending or what we thought was true.

I really enjoyed the setting of this, and the use of Norse mythology and gods. Danielle Jensen did a wonderful job creating the world of vikings, raiders, magic and battle. I liked that Freya wasn't some annoying FMC who just whined the whole time, but she definitely had some flaws. She was used as a tool from a shitty husband who betrayed her and then she was immediately used again by another Jarl seeking to be King. For whatever reason, she just accepted what he said and the fate he proclaimed for himself and never even knew what exactly she was to do. I really don't know why she wanted to protect people who didn't earn her loyalty, and I know this was a whole new life for her that she was trying to endure, but it just seemed weird. She literally had power to fight the Jarl, her "marriage" to him, and the people who used her as a weapon but she didn't, and didn't question very much. A lot of things in this book were extremely predictable like that Bjorn was the spy and that he was secretly working for the enemy. He was captured by the enemy for years and only "rescued" when his powers were revealed and she never even asked what life was like with the enemy or how he felt about his father or the other king...I would have asked. I liked that she was tough, and that she accepted her power and identity and learned to wield it. I definitely want to read book 2 when it releases and the audiobook version was great.

THIS ENTIRE REVIEW IS A SPOILER AND A HOT MESS OF THOUGHTS. I’ve never done a review this way, but I thought, why not? Here it goes 👇

This gives major Verity vibes. Ms. Hope had a stroke and could only move one arm...yet her live-in caregiver hears footsteps coming from her room and doesn't feel comfortable around her. Can she actually move? Is she faking it? She types her story on a typewriter from that night of her family's murder. Everyone suspects that she did it, but did she? Mary, the previous caregiver, is found dead with a suicide note that they don’t specify if it was written or typed by the new caregiver and a murder investigation starts. And now Ms. Hope doesn't want the cop to know that she can type 🤔 Now even more murders surround the house and the characters. The cop doesn’t believe the new caretaker because he still thinks she killed her own mother. Seems like he could have killed the family since he is trying to cover it up so fast as a suicide without properly investigating, or he’s just a bad cop. Jessie has a photo proving that Ms. Hope can type. The cook acted weird earlier. The groundskeeper Carter thinks he is her grandson. Did the previous caretaker run and try to bring her story to the authorities which got her killed? Who is in the will to inherit everything? Is the house haunted with all the murdered spirits? Is Mary dead because she knew too much? Is Kit next? Ms. Baker is deflecting when Kit shows everyone the paper that was left in the typewriter. Ms. Baker made up rules like not allowing Ms. Hope to go outside. Lenora seems to really dislike her or the rules. Ms. Baker is a jerk. She threw the typewriter over the cliff taking away Lenora’s only means of communication. She also slept with her husband way back when. I wonder why Ms. Baker has all the power to make all of her decisions, does she have POA? Kit thinks that Virginia is actually still alive and goes to the urns where she sees there’s no ashes for Virginia. Kit confronts “Ms. Baker” who is actually the real Lenora. Lenora is actually Virginia. Virginia didn’t die that night; she was hanged but it did not kill her, so she was declared brain dead and went into a coma for months. She was paralyzed but could hear and understand everything. Lenora was now in charge of the house, the business and the inheritances. Lenora had Virginia declared dead, so she inherited both inheritances and Virginia became Lenora. In everyone’s mind Lenora Hope killed her family so she decided to be not herself and come back as Ms. Baker while “Lenora” had polio and multiple strokes to keep up appearances.

I just finished book 2 of Harry Potter for the first time ever 🎉

I'll rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was pretty good. It was not as good as the first book IMO, but middle school me would have loved this. The teachers in this school are terrible 😂 They don't teach anything they just do it and then say now you. I think I didn't like it as much because of the animal abuse (I'll cry like a baby for hurt animals but not for humans). I know more sad animal things happen in this series 😢 At least I'm expecting it. I cried for days in GOT when the horse got slaughtered 🤦‍♀️

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was never allowed to read this series or watch the movies as a kid. A few years ago, I saw this movie with a friend and wasn’t entirely paying attention, but I remembered most of it after seeing bits and pieces of the first 2 movies. At 27 years old I started the series and am loving it!

The book is literally an entirely different story than the movie! The rest of this review has some spoilers comparing the book and movie so read at your own discretion. This book is immensely better than the movie in my opinion for the following reasons: Harry gets his first ever birthday cards and presents from Hermione and Ron as well as a monster book from Hagrid in the book only, the annoying muggle aunt stays for a whole week and Mr. Dursley said he would sign the field trip form if Harry behaved so this all happened over a week’s time, “the grim” was seen more in the book than the movie, Harry stayed in The Leaky Cauldron for 2 weeks in the book exploring the area and buying things for class before running into his friends before the term starts, Dementors weren’t allowed INSIDE the school in the book but showed in the movie, there were multiple hippogriffs in the class with Hagrid, not just one like in the movie, Harry never fought the Dementors with the Boggart in class like in the movie, Hagrid has to go to a hearing with Buckbeak to defend him in the book before he is sentenced to death, and when Harry uses the marauder’s map to go to Hogsmeade, he doesn’t use the invisibility cloak and he gets stuck at a place where the professors come and talk about Sirus Black and explain who Peter Pettigrew is and how his parents died…which was revealed in the movie in a totally different spot, Harry got the new broomstick at Christmas in a package and they all suspect it is from Sirius Black, and it was not given to him on mail day, Sirius Black was in the castle multiple times and Ron even saw him which wasn’t in the movie and so many more things happened towards the end of this that I am literally shook. From the moment Buckbeak gets executed it’s a whole different story. I can’t believe how much they cut out from just this part in the whomping willow.

*I listened to this on Audible, so don’t come for me if I spell things wrong 😅

The book had a lot more details and things that I wish were in the movie or were expanded on. This is definitely a series that just gets better and better in each book as they grow older, and the events are more fun and exciting. I know younger me would have been obsessed with this and I love that I finally get the references I hear all the time from friends and family who love Harry Potter. I’m super excited to read book 4 and the rest of the series as I have no idea at all what will happen after this one!

Book 4 👏 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really liked this one. I plan on watching this movie next weekend, and hopefully, I'll be done with book 5 as well to watch that movie right after. I love that Hermione got to grow up a little bit and that Ron realized she is a girl who is pretty. I liked the story of the dance because that's such a typical coming of age experience that was woven perfectly into this. There were so many new characters that really added to it, and the competition was great. It seems like the dead are never really dead in this series 😂 This book also felt really dense in some spots, but I liked all of the characters' development. I liked the plot of this a lot and enjoyed the big scenes.

Edit: I just watched the movie...wtf was that. That was nothing like the book, and I did not like it. House elves weren't even in it? They didn't even show the world cup match....the ball was modern and weird, crum was portrayed totally differently and so much was left out.

My Rating: This is a 3.5-star read for me, so I’m rounding up to 4-stars. This series overall is 5-stars because I absolutely love it. This was the first ever hockey romance and any sports romance series I’ve ever read. This was perfect for readers who are just getting into it!

I have a few concerns and things to point out for book 3: First, a lot of the stories were really similar between the 3 main books with the girl ending up pregnant in all of them and with both Poppy and Rachel not knowing which of their men is the bio dad and not caring. There were also a lot of similar phrases and wording as well as super similar personalities in characters. “I’m dead, deceased”, “she looks devastating” etc. Also, one of the men retire after their first year with a baby on the way in 2 of the books…it was just so similar. Emily Rath’s writing style is great, and I loved that she mentions things like Sons of Anarchy, A Discovery of Witches, some nerdy references, and things that are super relatable and that make us LOL. Usually in a series with other books based on characters in the main one, their stories and personalities are very different so I just felt like this one could have been written a bit better. It also seemed like Poppy’s story kind of took a backseat to her 2 men, like her sister is marrying her ex and she has to plan the activities and be the MOH and there were a lot of chapters where that wasn’t even mentioned, and it seemed like such a random part of the book for a big chunk of it. It was a really good little story at the end, but it could have had more.

I REALLY hope Emily makes the next books in the series at different seasons instead of all of them being in the same timeline for their first hockey season, it’s just getting to be a lot and I want newer stories with the love interests and think a second season moving on would be so great because in the Ever After books, the timelines are up to like 6 years from the initial book and those were all amazing extra chapters that deserve their own spotlight.

I listened to this on Audible, and the narrator for Colt was AWFUL. I hated his voice so much and don’t know how he is even allowed to record audiobooks. It sounded like Kermit the frog was sick and had a cold, and when he did the female voice OMG it was the worst thing I’ve ever heard. I had to fast forwards some of it. The other narrators were amazing, the voices of Poppy and Novi were great and I kind of wish I read tis on Kindle instead of this way.

I LOVED these narrators! usually when the male has to do the female voice, it's super annoying and cringey but after a chapter or 2 you got used to it and it wasn't bad. the female has a perfect voice too and I honestly wish these 2 narrated every single book I ever read. highly recommend!
