Don Lemon of CNN wrote the definitive history of racism in the United States, from the first slaves to be brought here to today’s racial discrimination. Having grown up in Baton Rouge, Don experienced racism throughout his entire life.

His writing is very well done. It draws one through the racist attitudes faced by those of color. I thought I knew what it was like for non-whites. But I was wrong. Living through the author’s perspective, one can realize how racism has persisted to this day.

I think everyone should read “This is the Fire”. It may be the most important book about racism.

An Exciting Book About Dawn of AC vs. DC

I found the book to be a fascinating story of the early days of electrification. Westinghouse, Edison, Tesla etc. were pioneers of using electricity. It’s amazing that these innovators were born into a world without electricity.

Inspirational

I loved the audible version, read by the author, it was more engrossing than a printed book (IMHO). His life story is full of philosophical realities. How he found what he wanted to do and why, and the results of his determination to live life as he wanted. The stories were fascinating.

I felt like I was listening to a good friend. I found inspiration in his creativity as an actor and a human being who cares about people.

I would recommend Greenlights to those who want to learn how to decide what your goals are and how to achieve happiness by following the path you want to travel and making it happen.

The book has inspired me to continue Professional Songwriting and musician on guitars and piano. I am more focused as to what I need to do to achieve my goals, in spite of cancer that left me without a voice for 3 years (Surgery this month has given my voice back). Not just singing, but speaking. In retrospect I did change my goal. I never gave up writing music, I wrote instrumental compositions. And wrote lyrics. I used the past years to practice every day and to improve my musicianship. To me I’ve learned a lot from Greenlights.

Another fantastic read from Alison Weir

Alison Weir is one of my favorite history writers. Her books are beautifully written, extensively researched and mostly concerned with the Tudor period, at the beginning of the 16th century.

I love history and non-fiction, especially the Tudors. Weir is by far one of the best writers on this topic. Her books aren’t short, but once I start I’m hooked. The details she uses make me feel like I am actually living in that Tudors. One of the best writers, and now looking forward to another book by Alison Weir.

The reader, Simon Prebble is perfectly British, and does a magnificent job.

Fun Read about Mathematical Errors

<b>Humble Pi</b> is not your typical book about mathematics. The author/narrator takes a humorous look at some of the worst disasters in a surprisingly lighthearted way.

You don’t need to be an engineer to understand the math involved (disclosure: I am a mechanical engineer). This book is a collection of engineering errors that cause further errors, until the system fails.

I have mixed feelings about the author’s humorous inflection, even for errors causing deaths. He manages to find humor in everything. There are times I also saw the humor in the errors. I also knew about half of the examples, and I did find a few errors in the seen when MB nè

Fascinating Story of Discovery & Development of Antibiotics

One of the best non-fiction science books I’ve heard or read. The book also stands on its own as an Audible book vs. print version. There are no charts, graphs or tables. Hoye is the perfect narrator.

Thomas Hager is a an excellent story teller, covering the discovery of antibiotics, made possible by the invention of the microscope, bringing the invisibly small to view. Hager takes us from there to the One of the best non-fiction science books I’ve heard or read. The book also stands on its own as an Audible book vs. print version. Wow, Jeremy Falk really connects with me. His calming voice is very relaxing, even as I am thinking about the parts of my life that are out of balance (and those that are in balance). With Jeremy’s guidance I realized that I have two parts that I am very passionate about , and two that I may work on. But, knowing what my true passions are makes me even more passionate and gives my life purpose.

Feeling Grounded and Relaxed. Another Great Jeremy Falk Session.

This is a wonderful way to let go of the things that make me anxious, while feeling grounded to the earth. It uses breathing techniques, and I wasn’t sure it would work for me as my breathing is compromised. But, with Jeremy’s calm and relaxing voice, I am able to listen and, fall into a pattern along with Jeremy. For me, Jeremy Falk’s sessions are the best!
