Being in these characters' heads is excruciating! They all basically have the same thoughts as each other, and have them over and over. None are likable or interesting.

It’s the one place left that feels safe to her. Until she learns that another earth-shattering Storm is coming . . . and everything changes. Enter Maeve, a prickly and potentially dangerous out-of-towner who breaks into the bookstore looking for shelter one night.

Apocalypse Not so Nasty!
Revisado: 03-09-25
The best part about this book is that not everyone in what's left of the world is violent and out for blood. There are a few survivors that believe their survival is based on the extinction of others, but it's not the prevailing theme, which was refreshing. Altho the book was lovely, the premise of the disaster(s) is all too believable, making it even more horrifying. Basically, I loved the protagonist. I recommend pairing it with the other debut by a new author, All the Water in the World (also very believable). I liked them both, but this one most.

Quick and Quirky
Revisado: 02-21-25
This book has a clever premise. The main character can be annoying in her over the top suspiciousness, especially because we are privy to ALL her thoughts or more accurately -- her stream of consciousness. I could definitely get past that, as well as getting past a very unlikely coincidence, because I liked the people and the premise. Although the particulars of Covid in 2020 in New York didn't seem to be very accurately portrayed, it was a trip down memory lane to that time in our lives. It was much nicer to watch it in the rear-view than it was living through it.

Historia
Maddy Banks is just like any other stressed-out freshman at NYU. Between schoolwork, exams, navigating life in the city, and a recent breakup, it’s normal to be feeling overwhelmed. It doesn’t help that she’s always felt like the odd one out in her picture-perfect Connecticut family. But Maddy’s latest low is devastatingly low, and she goes on an antidepressant. She begins to feel good, dazzling in fact, and she soon spirals high into a wild and terrifying mania that culminates in a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.

A Glimpse into a Life with Bipolar
Revisado: 01-23-25
It felt like Dr. Genova accurately depicted multiple aspects of bipolar -- the inner dialogues, the inner and outer stigmatization, the strain on relationships with others and one's self, the struggles to come to terms with meds and their side effects. I don't know this, because I haven't experienced bipolar disorder. Ms. Albertson's narration brought all the characters alive. I listened to this book in one day. I wanted it to last longer, but wasn't able to push pause, similar to how Maddy wasn't able to pause her thoughts and actions once she was in a full blown manic episode. I especially appreciated the depiction of how some aspects of manic thinking are worth separating out for further examination. Maddy understanding the value of her comedic perspective showed that her brain and thinking were multilayered, neither completely damaged nor purely brilliant.

Referred to only as Stranger, the narrator navigates New York City under the guise of characters he plays, always maintaining a professional distance from his clients. But, when a nosy patron threatens to upend his long-term role as father to a young girl, Stranger begins to reckon with his attachment to his pretend daughter, her mother, and his own fraught past.

Interesting and Thoughtful
Revisado: 12-25-24
I really enjoyed this book. The characters, even with short introductions, were not one dimensional. The storyline invites the lister to think differently about decisions and what is viewed as standard. It was the right length and I still wanted more.

Painfully Boring!
Revisado: 12-14-24
I'm only two hours in and I don't like this at all. I try to listen to stories about older people. Some are good -- The Love Elixer of Augusta Stern and some are exceptional -- Clare Pooley books! I find the characters In HDTMYFME aren't at all compelling to me and the story drones on (not on and on, cuz I'm out!).

Exceptional Writing & Reading!
Revisado: 09-24-24
I got this book because I loved the premise. Even tho my nosey self understands that there's a reason we can't read minds, I thought it would be the best thing ever to be able to read everyone's emails. Hmmm -- not so much! Ms. Sue did a great job of showing why that would be just too much. She also seems to understand how trauma impacts personalities, and she nailed how generational conflicts play out in workplaces. Her language was clever throughout, and Ms Pedrad's narration brought the complex characters alive. I highly recommend this audio book!

Revisado: 09-17-24
This was another masterpiece by incredible artists. 1st -- Excellent narration. I'm not sure what some folks are referring to re: Hakewill's narration. It was great. Of course Lee's was superb! It is as tho she IS Cherry! I came to know and love them all, especially Cherry. I hate when I'm nostalgic for characters, but Moriarty does it to me EVERY TIME!

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Clever All the Way Around
Revisado: 08-31-24
The book had a clever premise, with interesting characters. It's chuck full of insights, which usually bugs me, but she expressed them well. The narrator isn't my favorite, but she was a good choice for the main character and plot and premise.
