Historia
One moonlit night, thirteen-year-old Miles O'Malley slips out of his house, packs up his kayak and goes exploring on the flats of Puget Sound. But what begins as an ordinary hunt for starfish, snails, and clams is soon transformed by an astonishing sight: a beached giant squid. As the first person to ever see a giant squid alive, the speed-reading Rachel Carson-obsessed insomniac instantly becomes a local curiosity.

Flat Characters
Revisado: 07-26-22
The story was interesting enough, but I didn't feel any connection with the characters, which I found to be rather flat. I'm not sure if the reader reduced my enjoyment by making the best friend's voice sound like Biff; I found those parts particularly unenjoyable. The descriptions of marine life and the awe of science were the best parts.

Poignant and Humorous!
Revisado: 01-20-21
I loved this book and highly recommend the listen! I listened all in one day while doing a jigsaw puzzle, and it was amazing. I wasn't familiar with Amber Ruffin before, but you can bet that I'll be keeping my eye out for more of her work from here on out! It was only released 8 days ago, and I sure hope that audible adds a PDF soon! (please?!)

Historia
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Fascinating - a must listen
Revisado: 03-28-19
Fascinating book. Biological evolution, development of societies, government and money, walks through sociology, psychology and anthropology... If it has to do with humanity, this book touches on it. And I didn't drudge through it; it really kept me engaged. Highly recommend.

Mediocre Mystery
Revisado: 11-13-18
I really wanted to love this book, since I absolutely love JKR and the HP series. Sadly, I was disappointed. I felt that it was lacking in character development and in action. Throughout the book, I found myself looking at the audiobook player to see how much longer I had to go. For me, it was a struggle to finish. I felt very little attachment to the characters and just wanted to find out whodunnit and move on. #mystery #whodunnit #meh #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Historia
Lucie Blackman - tall, blond, 21 years old - stepped out into the vastness of Tokyo in the summer of 2000 and disappeared. The following winter, her dismembered remains were found buried in a seaside cave. The seven months in between had seen a massive search for the missing girl involving Japanese policemen, British private detectives, and Lucie’s desperate but bitterly divided parents. Had Lucie been abducted by a religious cult or snatched by human traffickers? Who was the mysterious man she had gone to meet? And what did her work as a hostess in the notorious Roppongi district of Tokyo really involve?

Overly Detailed
Revisado: 11-13-18
I love true crime, and I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts. This book was overly detailed and it captured more facts than experience. It was interesting to read and I'm glad that I now know the story, but I could've watched an hour-long tv episode of the case and been satisfied. #truecrime #lostintheweeds #trueevil #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Historia
An intense psychological thriller for fans of I Am Watching You, The Luckiest Girl Alive, and All the Missing Girls. Two missing girls. Thirteen years apart. Olivia Shaw has been missing since last Tuesday. She was last seen outside the entrance of her elementary school in Hunts Point wearing a white spring jacket, blue jeans, and pink boots. I force myself to look at the face in the photo, into her slightly smudged features, and I can't bring myself to move. Olivia Shaw could be my mirror image, rewound to 13 years ago.

Inspired by True Crime - Misses the Mark
Revisado: 11-13-18
This book seems to be inspired by true crime, but it really misses the mark. The characters aren't compelling and the storyline is lacking. I'd pass this one up and spend your time/credit on either true crime or better fiction. #mystery #meh #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Historia
It's 1934. Businesses went under by the hundreds, debt and foreclosures boomed, and breadlines grew in many American cities. In the midst of this misery, some folks explored unscrupulous ways to make money. Angel-faced John Partlow and carnival huckster Ginger LaFrance are among the worst of this lot. Joining together they leave their small-time confidence scams behind to attempt an elaborate kidnapping-for-ransom scheme in New Orleans.

Terrifying and Tragic, with a Dash of Hope
Revisado: 11-13-18
Finding me by Michelle Knight is both terrifying and tragic, and delivered with a dash of hope. The author reads her own memoir, which in some ways adds to it, but in others detracts (as is often the case when authors read their own work). The book is definitely worth the listen if you're interested in hearing about the horrors of true crime. I have not yet listened to the book by the other two who were kidnapped. #horror #truecrime #readbyauthor #memoir #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

classic, and read by the best!
Revisado: 11-13-18
I am a proud potterhead! back when the books were originally released, I read the first 3 in print and then discovered the audiobooks, and I've never gone back to reading with the voice in my head... Jim Dale can't be beat. His narration is brilliant. I've listened to the entire series several times. I have the whole series on CDs and am re-purchasing through audible so that I can have easy access on my phone at anytime. Harry Potter has it all - adventure, wisdom, strong character development and brilliant writing. Each book both stands alone and holds an important place in the overall story arch of the series. #potterhead #ravenclaw #adventure #fantasy #truth #tagsgiving #sweepstakes
