A quiet beautiful story…
Revisado: 03-18-22
Alexander McCall Smith has such tender and sensitive insight into human nature. There is nothing ‘epic’ about this story…but it leaves the listener feeling connected in this web of human experience in a positive way. And the narrator is nothing short of excellent. I look for audio books to listen to while I work…ones that are positive, light but real and not saccharine, predictable or overly sentimental , and endearing. This fits the bill perfectly.

An absolutely wonderful novel, with such sensitive portrayal of the characters. This author must have tremendous empathy to so skillfully write a story that spans the full breadth of human pain and joy. Highly recommended!

I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed this literary gem. The author knows the angst of an artist so deeply and so well! The humanity of these artists and other characters at this time in Italy puts the listener/reader right there! The narration was superb. I highly recommend it!

I have no idea what kind of talent weaves together such a beautiful story. I have listened to many audiobooks....this one left me breathless and moved....and shedding an unexpected tear: just like the story itself, which is complex, unpredictable, positive, wonderful. Thank you Susan Meissner, for your talent. Tavia Gilbert, your narration is unsurpassed. I am so uplifted and grateful for such an incredible novel and for both of you.

A story about the TRIUMPH of goodness and love!
Revisado: 02-28-18
What a beautiful and uplifting novel!! The writing was pure poetry, lilting, rich with metaphor, but not sweet or predictable. Characters were so sensitively portrayed. And the plot inspires the reader to take the long view, believing that in the end, hope and goodness, fed by unconditional love, will prevail!! A must read!!
